16 Days Post Gastric Sleeve Surgery And In Pain

Recommended Posts

I am 16 days post op and haven't had much pain past the first three days. All of the sudden when I move a certain way I get a pain around the far left incision. The incision looks good and there is no swelling. Has this happened to anyone else? Any ideas on what it might be?

I didn't scratch it and it isn't red. The pain seems to be inside rather than outside. It is only when I move a certain way.

Some people do have pain at the main incision site. Because of all the activity that happens there (biggest instruments in, stomach removed through that hole), that incision is often the last to heal and it sometimes hurts. Mine also had a drain in it that took extra time to heal, and it sometimes ached, although it wasn't really "pain".

Good luck with your journey!! :)

Once I really started trying to move around & exercise a bit (in my 2nd week) I was having a lot of internal pain in my left rectus abdominis muscle. It was my 2nd largest incision and it was healing fine; it was the first scab to fall off, in fact.

Anyway, I was having a deep dull ache in that muscle that happened every time I tried to sit up or roll over in bed, when I got on my knees to look under the couch, laughed or coughed. Basically, any time I was using my stomach muscles. It was really annoying, and I spent a few nights with my heating pad, but it did go away eventually.

Incidentally, I noticed that muscle was twitching quite a bit the first few days after surgery. Kind of like how your eyelid twitches sometimes. Clearly something traumatized it. I read through my surgical report when it came in the mail and it sounds like my stomach was removed through my largest incision, which was almost directly midline over my belly button, not the one on my far left side which has been having the hardest time healing, which many people say they had their stomach removed through.

Your pain sounds muscular in origin. As long as you aren't having other problems, like your incisions are red or hot and you're not running a fever or having other signs of infection or a leak, you're probably fine. Don't forget that your muscles have sutures in them as well and are healing. Try a heating pad or something else warm for a few days, and take it easy.

My left incision site was always giving me some pain. It was not red, swollen, or hot. It was healing at it's own rate and when I over did it, It would hurt alot. It lasted for aroun 5 to 6 weeks and haven't had any problems with it since. It's healed just fine. ;)

I am 20 days post op and I have the same thing surrounding the area of my biggest incision. Not all the time, but usually towards the end of the day after I have walked and done all my other stuff throughout the day. It always feels tight like a muscle cramp...I know it's my body's way of saying I had a long day since I have no other symptoms... hopefully it is just part of the healing process, and we are both on our way!! Hope it all goes well, and let me know how it turns out!!

Sounds like adhesions. As scar tissue forms, it pulls on other tissue, and can impinge nerves. Means that you are healing. My sleeve was my 6th abdominal surgery. blush5.gif

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
