1 Week Post Op, How Much Clear Liquids Can You Eat At A Sitting?

Recommended Posts

I can eat like 5 oz at a sitting, almost one week out of surgery,,, is that too much??? Thats the amount it takes for me to feel full... and it takes me a good 30-45 minutes to eat it though. how were you doing at this stage and how much were you able to take in.?

I am 6 days out and can eat a couple spoonfuls of pudding at a time....or like 4 oz of a Protein Shake in a 30 minute period...I am still having trouble getting all of my Water in...I don't know if there really is a normal...everyone seems to be a little different.

Post-op, the stomach is going to be swollen, and not the same amount for everybody. So, the amount someone can take in is going to be different for everybody. As long as you stop AS SOON as you start to feel restriction, then that is what you need to do. That is the amount to take in. If the next time you can take in more, great, but if it is less, then so be it. Listen to your body. Keep trying to get all your liquids in and remember your Protein, too. Don't stress if you don't hit your target amounts, just keep trying.

Myself, I didn't reach my target amounts of liquid and Protein until about a month out. I could do about 3 oz at a sitting and it would take me 20 minutes to do so. But, I'm a sweller. Just scratch me and my skin raises.

Maybe you should try heavier foods? Cream of chicken Soup and greek yogurt were filling for me. Just listen to your body. You will definitely be eating less in the next stage.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
