Medication Problems Since Having Gastric Sleeve Surgery

Recommended Posts

Since getting the sleeve I've found that my medications are all screwed up. I need to crush them for 3 months. One was a time release medication but I crushed it up anyways without knowing and now feel like I haven't been taking it. I'm going to call the doctor today and get another kind that is able to be crushed up.

Make sure you get your medications switched so they all can be crushed or compounded in Syrup if you have this surgery!

After surgery I was experiencing nausea when taking my pills.. my surgeon suggested that I take my pills (heart medication and thyroid medication) with a small amount of sugar free pudding. They go right down...and no nausea! The only pills I have to break up are my Vitamins (Calcium and my C & D combo). I am 3 weeks post op and I still do the s/f pudding with my pills.

Hope this helps!

Great information! I am having surgery this Friday so all the information I can get my hands on is helpful. I love this site as I have found so many great ideas and advice on here! When I ask my doctor about the the info I have read here he has always said it is accurate! I will always check with my doc before trying anything... but honestly this site is more helpful than HE is! :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
