Bad Skin Since Getting Gastric Sleeve Surgery

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

Just want to know if anyone else has developed bad skin since the sleeve? Mine is just driving me mad. Ive always had lovely skin, odd spot but on the whole, clear and smooth.

Since surgery it has become, spotty, bumpy, the spots can even be sore. Any one else had this happen? It seems to be getting worse too. Should I see a dermatologist?

Why cant we have it all? Fat with lots of hair and nice skin or thin and spotty and bald!!!!!

I would go see a dermatologist to get a professional opinion, especially if you have never had skin problems before. I know my skin has changed drastically, but it doesn't look bad. I went from having the occasional breakout and using the lightest face cream possible to having really dry skin. I have to use a heavy cream (I also use neck firming cream on neck and chest) to keep from looking wrinkled. My skin looks good if I keep up with my moisturizing regimen.

So, yes, the skin changes. But, it soulnds like that change can be different for everyone. Maybe your dermatologist can recommend a good facial regimen for you as well (peels, etc.)

I know a lot of people would tell us both that we should probably drink more Water. I really suck at that :-)

Hope you find a good answer...

Ive been breaking out pretty bad too....I think it's just our bodies way of getting rid of the junk that's still in the body. From what I've read on here it's just a phase, and this too shall pass! :)

I can't help but think it might be related to hormones being released during your rapid weight loss phase. I would definitely meet with a dermatologist to see if you can get some assistance with it, but I hope it will pass with time for you.

I was wondering the same thing, I have been breaking out like crazy since I got the surgery. I am a month out right now. I never have had acne and i am all of sudden getting it! It makes sense that it is probably part of the Hormones being changed! :)

I started the drybrushing technique right out of the hospital, along with taking a hair, skin, and nails formula. The drybrushing...some of you might think it's crazy, but I think it feels great and I've noticed a difference in my skin since those first few days following surgery. I do it maybe every other day.

I have had some acne pop up on my face, and I agree with the above. I think the break outs are because we're detoxifying.

I had exactly opposite, my eczema started to clear right up and my skin is better than it has been in ages. The hormone release theory is certainly plausible but seem the derm. to make sure and get some relief if possible.

Agreed with everyone else, definitely check in with your dermatologist.

That said, I noticed my skin started looking strangely post op. I'm sure there were lots of reasons for it, but I think the main factor is sort of like the hair falling out. Our cells will only reproduce normally when we are eating enough to sustain it. When we are not consuming as many calories to sustain and function, our bodies go to our fat stores, but will only use the calories it needs to keep us alive (major organ functions). It won't use them for skin, nails, hair - etc.

I drink LOTS of Water which Ive noticed helps a lot. I went through a spell recently where I wasn't getting enough and I seen it in my face. I've recently gone back to getting more than plenty and my face is looking much better again. Softer skin... along with a collagen cream from L'Oreal - I've seen a significant difference. One last thing, with my BA I was put on 1,000 mcg of Vitamin E orally. I take them every night before I go to bed (plenty of sleep helps too!) and I've seen a HUGE difference in my skin. Hubby even said my skin is softer than ever - and he's always said I had such soft skin.

I hope you can figure it out! :smile1: Let us know what your dermatologist says, I'm very interested to know.

Thanks everyone, sound advice as always. I booked with dermatologist next week so will keep you all posted. I have no doubt that I don't drink enough Water, I will start to get in as much as I can. Pretty sure the dermatologist will advise that too!

Well I'm just home. The dermatologist thinks its reaction to skimmed milk. Wants me to quit skimmed milk and Protein shakes (the rtd one i drink) because they are made from skimmed milk. He says it is quite common for females to have this reaction to skimmed milk. I am pretty gutted. I get a lot of my Protein in from both of these. :( The rtd is the only Protein shake I like and I LOVE my milk. He said i can still drink full cream milk but I've not drank that since i was a child and I don't even like the taste of it. The minute he asked if i drank a lot of skimmed milk i was like "uuuggggg oooohhhh!!!!" I have a gut feeling this is the problem. I didnt drink it like i do now before i had surgery so it makes sense that this could be causing the bad skin. You know when you just get a feeling?

Anyone have any thoughts?

My eczema is better too!! I had it all over my chest and it had made discolored Patches all over my chest...I got out of the shower just last week and realized they were gone! I have no idea how long they've been gone, but that's the least of my worries lol I do have the break outs on my face and neck, but I was prepared for that to happen. The eczema clearing up was a extreme bonus!!!

Wow that's very interesting. I've never heard of this before. I really don't have any suggestions except maybe try watering down the whole milk? Wow... I haven't drank whole milk since I was a kid.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
