Problems at the Hospital: Help Needed!

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone,

Some of you know my mother was sleeved on November 3, 2011. Her surgery went well, and she was a textbook surgery. However, there were many problems experienced in the hospital where she received her post-operative recovery care. Many of the nurses and doctors there were not knowledgeable about the difference between the VSG and the RNY in receiving medications. My mother has chronic medical conditions for which she has been treated for years that require extended release (ER) medications.

She was seen by internal medicine doctors and pharmacists alike while she was there, but none of the physicians wanted to give her the medications her body needed to maintain her health because of the mechanisms of the drugs. However, to my knowledge most of the extended release drugs are released into the system through the intestinal digestive tract, not the stomach. Our surgeon agrees with this, but nothing was done for her in the hospital, and they tried to recommend her switching to 16 pills a day rather than the 5 ER pills. I understand medical research findings are not always quickly implemented in practice, but I am appalled that my mother had to suffer because of this.

Right now, I am trying to work on a letter for the staff of the hospital and the care my mother received. If anyone has any research on extended release medications or anything that might help to add the letter please let me know.

I'm sorry, I don't have any clinical knowledge but I will say that taking ER meds post op made me VERY sick. The hospital staff did not try to keep ER meds from me, but they did make me very ill and I had to get off my ER meds. I hope your mom gets better soon.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
