DOS is 12/6/11. Can't wait but.....

i hope its ok that i cry here. My DH I are going to CA. on Friday for 4 days. to see my 81 yr. old mother We're flying to the west coast to help her after she fell and broke her pelvis....

She has tickets for a play (she'll use a wheelchair) but i don't have anything to wear. Trust me, she wanted me to buy something nice. I went to Kohl's nothing that fit or whatever. i didn't want to spend a lot of money on an outfit i won't wear again. I don't really go out, so the outfit would be a waste of MY money since i hopefully shouldn't be able to wear that size again.

it seems my mother has always been ashamed of me and my weight. my other siblings are average weight. She knows i'm having the surgery,

I'm afraid to call her and tell her, no new outfit, but i don't want to her to see me when I arrive arrive and get mad. BTW i'm 58 years OLD.

Thanx for listening, writing this down has helped me through the tears. i don't know how to do a blog so here i am.

thanx again for your ears

kathy

Hi Kathy,

I'm so sorry that you're feeling so sad. And I'm sorry to hear you feel your mother is ashamed of you - that is just painful to even consider.

Do you have a nice pair of black pants and pretty top? or a simple black dress? Maybe you could buy yourself some pretty earrings and necklace or a pretty scarf to dress up what you already have. Put on make up, do your hair and feel pretty for YOU.

I wish you the best, this trip should be something to look forward to and enjoy - I hope that is how your Mom sees it as well.

Big warm hug,

Teri

I think a lot of us on here dont feel like going anywhere anymore, dont feel like dressing up, and are thinking "whats the use." I've been feeling like that a lot lately. But you have already made the biggest decision to get healthy and be the best you you can be! Unfortunately the hard part is sitting here and waiting for surgery to get here. Just try and keep your head up, and vent on here any time you need to, it really helps!

Thanx for caring and saying those nice true things. I'll try and talk myself into feeling better and keeping my chin up, both of them :seeya:

the thought of 12/6/11 puts a  on me. thanx kathy

Wear something you think is nice, and if your mom says anything tell her exactly what you have said here. Tell her you won't waste your money on something you are only going to wear once. Tell her you are sorry she feels you won't look nice but you will put a lot of time and effort into what you wear and you think you will look FAB!

Also, I hardly ever dress up but when I do I usually wear a cute pair of dark jeans and a nice button up shirt. Since no one ever sees me without my yoga pants or sweats they almost always think I look nice.

It's not about anyone else it is about YOU. Like someone else said you need to feel good about you and that's all that matters. The more confident you are on that night the less likely your mom will say anything. I have always heard confidence makes the woman.

Good Luck and keep your head held high.

First of all I was there too...my husband often has to attend military functions and he always wants me to go. Before I had surgery I would "forget" to get a babysitter until the last minute and not have to go. I hated wearing the clothes that fit me. They made me look so old! I felt ashamed of my self and always though I embarresed my husband. I always felt like the fattest worst dressed women there. But you know what I dont now! as a matter of fact I am usually the smallest (not necessarily the best dressed). I love being by his side now. I know that it is uncomfortable for you now but...trust me Dec 6th is a GREAT day to have surgery...that was my date and this surgery has saved my life in so many ways. Next year you will be beggin to go out in your new clothes you will feel great and not mind spending money to make you look good. I will pray that no matter what you wear you will have a wonderful visit with your mom. I just lost my mom in September and I wish I would have flown across the country to see her more (even if she made me crazy when I did).

Blessings to you,

I feel for you. I also agree with the others, there are simple ways to make yourself feel pretty and acceptable. However, have you checked the clothing exchange forum on this site? There are a lot of people who can no longer wear the nice things in their closet and I for one would love to send you something if I have anything, most of them don't want anything but the cost to ship. I haven't dropped much in size yet, but you could certainly use whatever I have much more than I can. What size are you looking for? I've got a variety of sizes from 18/20 - 26/28. I'd love to help you. Send me a private message if I can help you out at all. Maybe I could take a couple pics and send some options to you.

I know you no longer have the dilemma with what to buy for an event that you won't have to attend, but make your local thrift shops your best friend- SERIOUSLY!! You wouldn't believe some of the great clothes you can find there for basement bargain prices. You might keep this in mind as you start to loose weight after your surgery. Personally, it pains me a great deal to spend retail price on clothes except the RARE occasion I see something that I just have to have- but that is pretty rare.

Very generous of you! I started to offer the same, but then I realized the post is almost a month old...hmmmm...maybe an "upsale" post VGS post?

Also, may I suggest to everyone to keep an eye on lane bryant and women within for sales? you will be suprised! Much of your wardrobe can be tailored down a size or two as you shrink, at a fraction of the cost of replacing the clothing!

Hi Cathy

First I want to say how brave you are to show your most venerable side to others. I know how hard if can be to want your moms approval. Being a middle child I can relate to those feelings as "acceptance". Know this and try to embrace your own feelings during this amazing process. So many things are going to change for you. Good things- your up coming surgery to name one. The battle of losing the weight will be obtainable and most of all your self worth will start to appear.

I wish you much luck in your surgery and if there is anything I can do for you. Please do not hesitate in contacting me - Maddy

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
