Are you loosing "inches" instead of "lbs"?

STALL, STALL, STALL, STALL STALL...lol

Ok my VST family,

I am now 7 weeks out. When I reached 3 weeks I hit the dreeded stall! It stayed for 2 weeks and then I got sick with a cold. Because of the cold, I actually dropped 2 lbs. Now, I have been watching the Protein intake; taking in more Water, and yes -- I exercise like a champ in a race. But, my scale would not move.

Now, at 7 weeks I hit my 2nd stall. Then one day someone said to me, "You are really loosing alot of weight! Look how small you are getting". Now, in my mind -- "I am stuck at the same ol' 27lbs down (Up\down 2-3lbs from my stall) weight loss for the longest. (yeah, yeah, I know I am still fresh out of the gate..lol -- but like everyone else, I want my scale to move also.)

Afterwards, I started to think -- maybe I am loosing "inches" and not "weight". Soooo, I tried on my tightest pair of slacks and they HIT THE FLOOR! ...lol Yep! My pants hit the floor. And, then I tried on my favorite pair of slacks and they were so big, all I could say was "REALLY?"...lol

Soooo my question to you VST family is -- If you are hitting a stall, do you think you are loosing "inches" and not "weight"?

I'm with ya! I am a slow steady loser (about 10 lbs a month) but I am losing inches like crazy. I have gone from a size 22 pants, 3x top to size 14 pants and XL or L top. I have lost 70 lbs since May (pre op diet 45 lbs down) and 26 since surgery (8/29/11). I try not to let the scale stress me out, but it makes no sense at all when the scale isn't moving but my clothes are getting too big. Soo very confusing. But I am still extremely happy!

ShellBear,

Great progress!! Heyy, stay around to help keep me strong. These stalls are just grueling and can place the mind in the wrong perspective!

Yea, it can really mess with the mind. Remember that you are getting smaller and the weight will continue to come off. I would say, try to stay away from the scale for a while, but I can't seem to do that myself so I won't even suggest it. Hang in there and we will continue to go through this journey together. I just love my VST family!

God Bless!

Too be so close to Onderland, and yet so far away because of stalls -- Well, it's frustrating. I have been going from 204 - 200.5 on the scale for the last week+. I am logging my progress. I want to be in Onderland so badly, I can taste it --but my body says "NO"...lol

Hi STB,

1st I want to say hi from OR but I'm a native Houstonian with family still in Houston, once a Texan always a Texan!

I have also stalled for a week. The clothes are getting looser but the scale hasn't budged. I'm even walking 2.5-3 miles/day most days & eating 725-900 calories/day. Sure is frustrating but I've heard people say that when you exercise, muscle can weigh more than fat. I do feel great & feel very confident that the sleeve is helping me eat right.

Hope both of us have a weight loss on the scale soon.

Take care,

Jan

I stalled at three weeks for five weeks but noticed the inches were melting away. One morning I woke up, jumped on the scale and was five pounds down. I lose inches and then I notice....VOILA there go the pounds. That has been the way it has been going for me so far.....

Absolutely! I will be 16 weeks out tomorrow and as of this morning i've lost 44lbs. And plenty of inches. At my 3month follow up 2 weeks ago, their scale stated i'd lost 35 (corrected) pounds and 25 inches overall. Now that is just awesome!

I haven't moved from my current size quite yet, but my pants ARE SO LOOSE! So it's time for so alterations or a tighter belt. LOL!

Personally I'll take the inches or pounds as long as my weight is going down.

Also, many of us say we are slow losers but when I stop and think about losing 5, 9, or 10, etc. in a week, two weeks or a month really isn't slow especially if we stop and put it into perspective before VSG I could not have sustained this type of weight lose. As a matter-of-fact, I would usually lose about 30 pounds, stop and then gain it back plus more. So at this point in my journey I've broken my own personal record. For me, that is cause for a mini celebration, because I did have a short-lived fear of failing and/or not being able to break my freezing at the 30# lost mark.

You'll are very positive. Sometimes, I think something is wrong because no weight is dropping. I exercise very hard. Other times, I say "forget it!". The scale will do what it will do.

I love all the positive input that you'll have provided. Keep it coming....

Ohh yeah -- down 2lbs again...hehehe, but still "no" 199. Whooaaa is me, when will I get below 200.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
