TOGA to sleeve revision anyone?

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if anyone here had the TOGA surgery (Transoral Gastroplasty). It is not FDA approved but it was done for clinical trial but discontinued. I had it done almost 3 years ago and it was unsuccessful. I lost 40lbs during my pre and post op diet and quickly gained all but 15 lbs back. Anyhow I wanted to find out if anyone had the procedure and been revised to sleeve. Ive been on numerous sites since my surgery and I met some ladies that were having it done but haven't heard anything since, good, bad, or indifferent. I cannot find anything online about the long term success ir whether anyone had failed on it and had revision. I read one medical study about 4 TOGA patients being successfully switched to gastric bypass but that's it. Anyhow I am scheduled with Almanza in march to switch to sleeve. I also contacted Aceves office but the price quoted was too high $12,500. I could never afford that. His staff claims he has done some TOGA to bypass revisions. Anyway, any info would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I too had my procedure with UT Houston/Dr. Wilson and lost 60 pounds but put about 20 back on. I was wandering how your revision surgery to the Gastrics Sleeve went ?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
