A little about myself and a ?

Recommended Posts

Thanks girls for all the well wishes. Well, my story is; I am 48 years old, married and mom to 2 beautiful girls age 11 & 14. I have been dieting since I was 6 years old. My mom was heavier and obsessed with weight, so she always had a new fad diet to try. I have gained and lost probably 3 people in my lifetime. Last big weightloss was when I got married 15 years ago. I lost 80 lbs dieting and exercising but gained it all back and some when I got pregnant. Back in 2006 my intestine ruptured and I needed to have an emergency colostomy. Luckily I only had to have the "bag" for 9 months. Then I got pulmonary embolisms, and 2 hernias (both surgically fixed). So since then I joined a gym and I work out with cardio and weight training 4+ times a week. I can't even buy a 1 lb weightloss. I've given up coffee, carbs, potatoes, sweets, chips, you name it. Nothing helps. So I am hoping the sleeve will finally be the answer for me. My husband is a great guy, but not really supportive of me getting this surgery. He loves me the way I am....but I don't. He loves to eat but I want to be thin and healthy. My mom isn't really supportive either but she just doesn't understand this whole procedure and how it can help. Thank God for this forum to get the support I desperately need, especially this week. Thank you all for listening and caring.

Now here is my question. Since I have had the mesh put in where the hernias were, what will happen when I lose weight in that area ?? Will I lose weight there?? God I hope so. Just afraid it will show. I'm sorry but I'm just getting nervous since I am less than a week away from surgery. Does anyone have any thoughts or info about this??? Thanks for listening. (:)

I can't picture the surgeries limiting your weight loss, now the question about "IN THAT AREA" is due more to your genetic programing than HOW you lose the weight. Your body decides where it will store fat and WHERE and WHEN to put it in and pull it back out. So no one can really answer your question for you.

Now HOW IT WILL LOOK is a different answer, as you lose typically surgical scars that may be pulled or sunken have a tendency to flatten out as the sub-dermal fat dissipates. Only time will tell. Regardless of how it looks in the end you WILL reap many other benefits from losing weight and becoming healthier.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
