First day of full liquids! Yay!

Recommended Posts

My plan had me on Clear liquids for 10 days post op. For me, it was TORTURE. Today, I moved to full liquids and had a Tall Starbucks chai latte with soymilk and it was AMAZING. It took 2.5 hours to drink it, but it made me feel "normal". Post op is much more difficult than I imagined because I want to CHEW something.

BUT, my Starbucks chai was a small victory today. Hallelujah.

Try cottage cheese. It's on my approved full liquids list and it helps with the want to chew sensation.

Since my surgery was a revision, I was told to stay on Clear Liquids for 15 days!! I NEVER want to see a fruit-flavored Protein drink again in my life. I started to dread Isopure so much that I could hardly choke down one/day. When I finally moved to full liquids, I made 3 different pureed Soups - Black Bean, White Bean & Parsnip, and Cauliflower cheese. It's been WONDERFUL to taste savory, rich flavors again. I still drink two Protein drinks/day along with my Soups, but they are chocolate flavored, NOT fruit! Now this is doable for the next 15 days.

yay! the day I went to full liquids was such a relief for me as well! I couldn't stomach the Isopure or any of the powders, so I abandoned trying to get in my Protein during the clear liquids stage altogether. When I started full liquids, Premier Protein shakes from costco were my daily go-to. At first it took me about 3-4 hours to get one down, but now I can drink one is less than 20 minutes. There is an abundance of choices for full liquids; you can blend just about any Soup you can think of and thin it with broth, nonfat milk, or whatever. I hope the bariatric industry starts thinking more along savory lines as it develops new protein supplements. What a godsend that would be to all of us during the clear liquid stage, right?

The first day of full liquids is such a glorious day! I have never been so excited to eat cottage cheese in my entire life. I am about 4 days out from pureed foods and I am excited about that, but not nearly as excited as I was about being able to have milk products again.

I had an awful time with the Isopure drinks too. I ended up buying a bunch of them and was only able to choke 2 or 3 of them down. I have seen it said that the Grape Frost tastes like grape Kool-Aid, but that was definitely not my experience. I think I need to find a pre-op friend to pawn them off on.

Well, I guess my plan takes the prize so far - it calls for THREE WEEKS of nothing but Protein Shakes and clear liquids after surgery! No doubt that will be my first temptation to "cheat." Congratulations on sticking to it - you earned every drop of that Chai Latte!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
