when does eating start feeling normal again?

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I just ate lunch, and then proceeded to throw it up. I am starting my fourth week and am on mushies but am allowed as of tomorrow to start going to regular foods. Today I had a little bit of turkey with gravy and some soft brussel sprouts. I hardly ate any I am just wondering if I didn't chew enough or maybe ate too fast? The last bite did feel a bit stuck going down at which point I started getting that throw up feeling. I mean is this the way it always going to feel, or is it just because I am still so early out? Just wondering. Also, I know I am still at the point where I can have a leak, does anyone know what the signs or symptoms of a leak are? Just starting to worry cuz I know throwing up is not good for my sleeve, and if a leak starts, I would like to know what to look out for. I know they say a fever right? But is there pain? Thanks and sorry for being such a worry wart!

Still early and may just need to experiment with foods. Those things that don't stay down now may stay down later. I threw up twice in two months and pegged it to certain foods which are now on my try again in a few months mental list.

At 4 weeks out I was still on soft foods and I don't believe that would include Brussels sprouts. I think you may be trying certain foods a little early. Stick with soft easily chewable foods for a little while and add the more dense things slowly. As said before, what you cannot tolerate now may be OK in the months to come. Take is slowly and you will be more comfortable...Kathe

At 2 months out I can eat nearly anything, and I haven't gotten sick or the slimes for 3 weeks! (I did maybe 3 or 4 times total) I do feel normal and portions are not so ridiculously small anymore! I can eat a whole poached egg with a half an English muffin for example, it's nice!

What she said ^^^^^

I find that poultry is dry and tougher to digest than white fish for example. Start slow with the real foods. Try turkey OR brussel sprouts, not both at once, and leafy veggies can be tough for a lot of people early out.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
