Anyone still here?

Hi there, figured out how to join a group, just missed the button because I dove straight into the discussion thread.

Anyway, my name is Julie, I'm in Boise ID and am in early pre-op, had my consult with Dr. valentine on 9/12 and my first of 3 supervised diet appts with his PA on 9/19. I am excited and nervous about this. I am not sure yet, actually, whether I will have RNY or sleeve.

How and why did you choose sleeve over other options?

What do you think of Dr. Valentine and/or your St. Lukes doc if you are in this area?

Finally -- what is the st. lukes preop psych eval like? mine is in october. I'm not sure what to expect.

Thanks!!!

Good question, I just joined.

I am having surgery tomorrow (8/16/2012) 10:50 AM at Dr. Robert Korn is the surgeon, St. Luke’s, Boise Idaho. I am now sitting here with all of the emotions that a person can generate, excited, worried, nervous, apprehensive, and wanting to just get the surgery over and start the new journey of my new life!

I started looking at the LAPBAND when I was working for the state of Idaho their insurance will not cover weight loss surgery. When I change jobs they required St. Lukes because it is a Bariatric Center of Excellence. The seminar I attended the speaker was Dr. Korn. I choose Vertical Sleeve because LAPBANDS don’t seem to stay in forever and RNY did not remove the glands that produce the hunger hormone.

The Dr. Korn and his staff are fantastic!!!!

The pre-operation psych evaluation was ok, I have never done one before.

The patents of Dr. Valentine that attend the cooking and group meetings all say he and his staff are fantastic.

I'm doing great. I had my surgery on thursday August 16, 2012 went to the group meeting on the next monday and to the cooking class on tuesday. I only used the pain meds to sleep at home three nights. I had no problems at all. I can say enough good things about Dr. Korn and his staff!

The pr op evaluation wasn't much at all.

PS sorry for the long delay, look at this site on my Droid and can't seem to get access to this forum on it.

Hello fellow Idahoans. It appears there aren't to many of us.

I live in Idaho Falls (other side of the state from most of you). I was sleeved October 8th, and down 35 pounds! It's still all very new to me but I'm thrilled with my decision to do this. I was destined to live a short and unhealthy life, I now have a lot of hope for the future. I'm already off of most of my diabetic meds.

Is there anyone from South Eastern Idaho out there?

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
