First steps into my journey...hope to be approved soon.

Well, I guess this is where my journey begins. I am 38 years old, I am a mother of 3 and have struggled with weight for my entire adult life. On January 2010 I began to consider the wls. On May, after my baby was no longer nursing I decided to make an appointment with my general practicioner at Kaiser La Palma, to address my weight problems. I finally got in to see my doctor on July 11, 2011. My doctor explained that in order to be a cAndidate for the surgery referral I had to be 40% BMI or have medical problems related to obesity. The nurse was order to measure my height and to take my weight.

5'2

220 lbs

40%BMI

This measurements put me righ at 40% BMI...For time first time I felt happy about the numbers on the scale. LOL

The Dr. immediately sent our the referreal, gave me and EKG and ordered tons of lab work and a sleep Apnea test . She recommended that lower my calorie intake and try to lose some weight before the surgery. she talked as if it was a set deal. I couldn't belief how quickly everything started moving.

My EKG was great!

Vitamin D was at 7-- started on 50,000 iu weekly

My husband and I went to my Bariatric Orientation on 8/11/11, it was in this orientation where we found out about the SLEEVE. It didn't take us long to determine that this is the surgery that is right for me. When I discovered that I had a Vit D deficiency, i became concern about the malabsorption with bariatric surgery.

Revisited Dr. on 8/29/11 weight in at 216 lbs.

by now my Vit D was up to 32.

On 9/12/11 I had my sleep apnea test, still waiting for the results.

Today I weight in at 212 lbs, total down 8 lbs.

On 9/20/11 I have an appointment with the options dr.

on 10/3/11 I begin the options classes, once a week for the following 12 weeks.

I DONT KNOW WHEN THEY WILL TELL ME THAT I HAVE BEEN APPROVED. I KNOW IS A PREREQUISITE TO DO THE 12 CLASSES,

BUT DOES THIS MEAN I HAVE BEEN APPROVED? WHEN WILL MY SURGERY TAKE PLACE?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
