I'm still waiting for final approval

Hi Scott,

I am 8 days away from my surgery in Reno, NV. I live in Northern California but have to travel to Reno for care over 3 hours one way). I am going to Western Bariatric Surgical Center and Dr. Mark Kozar is my Surgeon. I am very excited.

I hope you are approved, this seems like the best solution for many. My daughter has the Lap-Band and that was not the solution for me. I started this journey thinking RNY but, my doctor discussed VSG and after several months searching and really reading a lot from actual people on this site - it helped me make a final decision.

There does not seem to be many folks responding to a Nevada calling but, I know there are many who have had this surgery.

Fingers are crossed for your approval! I wish you all the best.

Hey Everyone! =)

I'm in Las Vegas and I'm going at the beginning of the year to be sleeved. I'm super excited but I've had a hard time finding support groups here that aren't associated with doctors offices here. I think I'm one of those people who will definitely need the support, but I just can't figure out where to get it here.

I'm also in Vegas. I'm in the month 5 of my 6 month medically supervised diet. Tomorrow is my weigh in. Only one more month and then everything can be submited to the insurance company.

Savvyshamrock, I'm with you. I don't know where the support groups are.

Tell you what Tiffani, if we can't find one we'll start our own! =)

My husbands company is really into the revitalization of downtown so there are tons of places we can meet up and hang out! =)

Congrats on pushing through the supervised diet and good luck with your weigh in!

I've been trolling around the other boards so I didn't know this was out here. I'm in Henderson (when not on the road) if anyone needs some assistance or just wants to talk. My wife is also a sleever.

I'm in Fallon! Not been sleeved yet, June! I will be going to Mexico to see Dr Ramos Kelly! I have been through all the hours with the insurance just to chicken out or be talked out of it. So, this being my third time, I found out after going to the seminar (for the 3rd time) that my hubby's new insurance doesn't cover wls! Sigh, just my luck. So, I have been researching Mexico and it's my best bet. I like what the sleeve offers (less probs, not intestine te-route) but not sure I will be able to lose all I need to (125ish) still waffling between sleeve & rny

I'm in Reno. Just found this forum about a week ago. I wanted to go to Western Bariatric but my insurance doesn't cover so I'm going to Mexicali in May with Dr. Aceves.

Dr Aceves did my band to sleeve revision about a year ago. Both he and Dr Campos did a great job and the hospital was so clean.

Good Luck. We just moved to Henderson and after we get settled I will be looking for a support group.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
