Can Anyone Help with a Kaiser Question?

Recommended Posts

Thank you in advance for any and all input.

Here is my question:

I have Kaiser and have had Kaiser for years. I didn't want to have to wait forever to get my surgery so I self payed in Mexico.

Should I (GOD FORBID) have any complications or problems arise, will I be covered?

I would love to take advantage of their bariatric aftercare program and see a nutritionist, psych .....

That is what I did. I told my PCP I was having surgery in Mexico. After I came back, she ordered baseline labs for me and referred me to the bariatric nutritionist (who was not much help, but I appreciated the referral). I also found out when and where the support group meets. I was told that if I thought I had a surgery-related complication, I should go to the KP bariatric center where there is always a bariatric surgeon on call. I had no complications so I can't really say how that would have worked. I will say that the people who work in the bariatric program are really not keen on people having surgery in Mexico but my PCP is great.

Thanks Foxbins!!!!!

What a pretty pup - btw!!!

I also went down to Dr. Aceves. He was WONDERFUL!!

With the exception of my creepy night nurse, I fell in love with the entire team down there.

I had conducted some research and found Dr. Aceves one of the most qualified. This is the primary reason I chose Mexico.

Thanks again,

Susie

Oh, and a ps: here.....

I have yet to meet my pcp. I have been assigned to her for well over 3yrs. I haven't had the need to go. Most of my medical meetings were with the OB/GYN and having two kids.

I tried to schedule an appt with her to get a referral and the only appt was 4mo out.

I have an answer.

Just got off the phone with Membership Services. All is good!!!!! Yeah!!!

I will be covered for ALL aftercare and am being referred to the aftercare bariatric program if I choose to use it.

Good news! Glad the receptionist at Kaiser Fremont was right :-) I love the aftercare program. It makes me feel better to know I can call or see someone who is familiar with WLS surgery issues and how it affects other aspects of my health.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
