Pre-op surgeon visit.......help

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!!! I have completed everything in my process to getting the sleve....now I have the pre-op surgeon visit on 9/16/11. When the nurse called to schedule it, she said to be prepared to stay 3-4 hours. Why??? Just wondering what all they do and go over during this visit. Thanks for your help in advance my friends.;) Sarah

Call back and ask what happens during that time frame ... then you won't have to wonder. During my pre-op visit I filled out paperwork and asked some questions. But it didn't take that long! Good luck.

Hmmm, I haven't had my pre-op yet either, mine is on 9/7, but it is going to take about that length of time as well. From what I've heard my surgeon just talks about the surgery, asks/answers any questions, and talks about the pre-op diet and the post-op diet. They probably also tell you to expect to be there that long in case the surgeon is running late or something like that...

If you find out more please share!

Mine is also on the 16th and I was told that I will also be meeting with the anesthesiologist too along with the surgeon and signing all the surgical forms. Mine will be done is a round table setting with 3-4 patients having surgery on the same day.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
