pain whie drinking....

Recommended Posts

I will be one week out tomorrow. Today I am having sleeve pain after I drink. Its a quick pain. Its like I can feel the liquid moving through and then a bit of pain comes. I've cut way back on the pain Med so maybe I'm just feeling more? Please share if you have experienced this. Thanks.

I was sleeved on aug 23, 2011. I know exactly the pain you are talking about. It is like you know it will come and then you wait for it to get over with. It seems to be a little better these last few days.

I am in week 1. I asked my doctor about it ans he said it is common. He said the stomach tissue Is swollen and a little traumatized so it is normal to have such pain in the beginning.

Try taking smaller sips. That's what I did and it went away. (I', at day 9 today.)

Like the previous poster said, try taking smaller sips. After awhile, it won't hurt as much. I take larger sips without any pain (I'm 20 days post-op), but I still have to be careful not to drink too much at once.

Think about your swollen stomach as a funnel. If your sip is too big it has to sit there and drip into your stomach. Once the swelling goes down it will move faster. Make sure you are up walking to get the surgery gas out as well. It's part of the process and it doesn't last more than a week or two.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
