Is it really going to happen?

During the waiting game, have any of you thought that you will never "really" go through the surgery or that it's not going to happen?

Yup. And then, when I had surgery I was sure that I'd be the only one ever that actually wouldn't lose the weight. Now I fear I will not make goal or that I will eventually gain it all back. But the level of fear now is much less than before I had surgery. Your fears are completely normal. :)

I started my journey on weight loss when I was 16, that 39 years ago. Tomorrow I truely hope that it is the beginning of the end to diets and plus size clothes. I am sooo looking forward to changing my lifestyle and eat to live, not live to eat. I go in a 6am tomorrow morning. Your day will come, it will. Hang in there. owl

Thanks, Amanda!

Owl, hope all went well for you! I know my time will come it just seems unreal till I get a date, I guess. It's just taking so long. I know others have waited much longer though.

You'll be fine. I had a million and a half fears while I was waiting to be operated on, and then they gave me a Valium and I quickly set off to happy land as they wheeled me away.

I currently have some post-op depression that I'm battling, but a lot of that has to do with other things outside of my WLS. I'm 5 days out from surgery, and I am sooo glad I went through with it!

I thought the same thing! I started to fear that I wouldn't lose any weight at all. Now the weight is dropping off (to the point where I'm almost scared it's dropping too fast), so I guess I can set that fear aside for now :)

I totally know the feeling! For some reason I am so obsessed with surgery right now, it feels like it won't happen. I don't know why but it feels like the surgery is never going to get here or something will happen to start me all over again... I'm having to do the 6 month diet so YES--it feels like eternity!

I am so paranoid that something is going to happen between now and next month. Since I am still in the saving the last pennies stage, I'm so afraid that something will happen and I won't be able to save the last little bit. We were afraid that happened yesterday; my husband is a police officer and his shift changed without any notice which meant he couldn't work his part-time job with his new hours. But praise the Lord that he was able to switch his part-time shifts around to keep both jobs. I tell you, I was on pins and needles all day yesterday! I cannot WAIT until surgery morning and all of this is over! The excitement is a bit like Christmas morning, lol.

Yes that is normal. Before then I guess I was just going through the motions. It hit me like a ton of bricks when the doctor gave me my surgery date. I was scared, excited, scared, worried, scared. I doubted myself. But a few hours later I was ready for it. I knew then I was getting my life back.

So you are normal like all of us crazy people.

PS

Now when I had my surgery, I was being wheeled down the hallway & next thing I knew someone was waking me up. I thought for sure they forgot to operate on me. I looked at me belly to make sure.

Thanks, everyone. It feels good to know I'm not the only "crazy" one.lol I'm on a second go round with hospital/surgeon. The first clinic didn't work out so I've had to start over. I actually got a call the other day. My pre op appt is Sept 21! I knew I made the right decision to change hospitals. It also gave me new hope that it's gonna happen!! I think as long as the conveyer belt is moving, it's easier to stay motivated.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
