Had Surgery on Tuesday 8-9-11

Recommended Posts

Well I am home! I made it through surgery Tuesday and came home about 2 hours ago. The surgery went great although I did experience a lot of nausea and vomiting the first night and was feeling really hot . My mom and husband were wiping me down with ice-cold cloths and had to run out and buy me a small fan for my room. I did feel a bit better yesterday, still some discomfort in my belly but still had some vomiting last night. Today the pain is better, I did a lot of walking in the hospital. I was very happy to get out the IVs as they were making my arm swell very bad.

I took a little nap in my own bed and it felt much better the hospital beds. My husband got my pain med filled and I tried taking it about an hour ago and it was horrible! It made me throw up again. They did not flavor it with anything. My mom just called the pharmacy and they said in order for it to be flavored u have to ask, well I think they should ask the patient! Needless to say, my husband just made a trip back to get it flavored and hopefully this will help.

One of the hardest things that I am having trouble with is getting down Fluid. Yesterday it took me 45 min. to get down 1 ounce. You don't think it would be hard but it is! I am now getting 3-4 ounces down an hour but hard to get them in every hour. I hope this gets easier as the days go on. I am looking forward to the upcoming days and weeks as I know I will get better and get used to drinking. I just wanted to let you guys know how I made out.

Welcome home, Shell! I just arrived home too. I am glad your family was there to help you with your temperature issues. It sounds like you've got great support!

I'm right there with you trying to figure out how to take in all this Fluid. We'll figure it out! :)

I was vomiting in the hospital also. They told me after that it caused a LOT more swelling. It felt like someone punched me in the chest with each Water sip!

IT GETS BETTER I SWEAR!!

Time will help, each day you will feel better, take it slow and keep trying on the fluids!

Good luck!

I had a lot of nausea as well... I only threw up once and it was blood. Imagine that...horrible. I would just try and try and try to vomit but nothing happened. I peed myself a few times though..lol Whatever.. at that point I could have cared less.. I just wanted to feel better.. and the truth is, you are a million times better the next day :o)

Congrats on your sleeve!!

Yes, it does get better, hang in there!!

SIP SIP SIP!! Just little sips, not drinks!! I was supposed to sip 1oz every 15 minutes for the first week and did not really have any trouble drinking. Lots do tho, just sip, sip, sip all day if you have to. It sucks, but you don't want to get dehydrated.

Keep us posted on how you are doing!

Hugs,

KElly ;)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
