Had Surgery on Tuesday 8-9-11

Well I am home! I made it through surgery Tuesday and came home about 2 hours ago. The surgery went great although I did experience a lot of nausea and vomiting the first night and was feeling really hot . My mom and husband were wiping me down with ice-cold cloths and had to run out and buy me a small fan for my room. I did feel a bit better yesterday, still some discomfort in my belly but still had some vomiting last night. Today the pain is better, I did a lot of walking in the hospital. I was very happy to get out the IVs as they were making my arm swell very bad.

I took a little nap in my own bed and it felt much better the hospital beds. My husband got my pain med filled and I tried taking it about an hour ago and it was horrible! It made me throw up again. They did not flavor it with anything. My mom just called the pharmacy and they said in order for it to be flavored u have to ask, well I think they should ask the patient! Needless to say, my husband just made a trip back to get it flavored and hopefully this will help.

One of the hardest things that I am having trouble with is getting down Fluid. Yesterday it took me 45 min. to get down 1 ounce. You don't think it would be hard but it is! I am now getting 3-4 ounces down an hour but hard to get them in every hour. I hope this gets easier as the days go on. I am looking forward to the upcoming days and weeks as I know I will get better and get used to drinking. I just wanted to let you guys know how I made out.

Welcome home, Shell! I just arrived home too. I am glad your family was there to help you with your temperature issues. It sounds like you've got great support!

I'm right there with you trying to figure out how to take in all this Fluid. We'll figure it out! :)

I was vomiting in the hospital also. They told me after that it caused a LOT more swelling. It felt like someone punched me in the chest with each Water sip!

IT GETS BETTER I SWEAR!!

Time will help, each day you will feel better, take it slow and keep trying on the fluids!

Good luck!

I had a lot of nausea as well... I only threw up once and it was blood. Imagine that...horrible. I would just try and try and try to vomit but nothing happened. I peed myself a few times though..lol Whatever.. at that point I could have cared less.. I just wanted to feel better.. and the truth is, you are a million times better the next day :o)

I'm home from the hospital today too, I feel like there are not enough hours in the day to drink enough liquid! I cant lie, post op the last few days was hell. :( I am so excited to start feeling ok at least!

i was sleeved on 7-11-11 and drinking gets better. just sip all day. for me it was easier to drink room temp water,. cold water made my stomach hurt. take it slow . it does get better---i promise.. good luck

Congratulations! I wish you a good recovery.

Follow your doctor's intructions, drink, rest, and give yourself time to heal. The results will be worth any discomfort.

take care.

I had my too on Tuesday and I feel like I can barley get my liquids down. Today has been a tough day lots of crying. I pray in the days to come I will be happy with this dicision. JkM

Congrats on your sleeve!!

Yes, it does get better, hang in there!!

SIP SIP SIP!! Just little sips, not drinks!! I was supposed to sip 1oz every 15 minutes for the first week and did not really have any trouble drinking. Lots do tho, just sip, sip, sip all day if you have to. It sucks, but you don't want to get dehydrated.

Keep us posted on how you are doing!

Hugs,

KElly ;)
