What did you do to prepare?

Recommended Posts

I am waiting patiently for August 14th but it is not coming quick enough.

I noticed also that I am eating bad things because it is "My Last Chance" and I don't want to think like that.

What did you do to prepare for your band surgery? Did you lose weight? Did you start the liquid diet early?

My Pops is taking me to Las Vegas in August so that we can play poker and have their buffet's for the " LAST TIME " Is this NUTS????

:faint: :faint: :faint: :faint: :faint: :faint: :) :) :) :)

I will be banded August 2, 2006 (unless i chicken out). I have been trying to eat like a bandster.... well sort of. I have been trying to chew my food for 20 times and eat small bites. I am trying to cut out my love of my life sodas and I am trying to drink 64 oz of Water. It has been hard

But the other night I went to a 5 star resturant and had beef tenderloin with salad, desert and bread. I was wondering how am I going to do with this. That food was goooooood. My company does 5 star resturants at least once a month. I think next month I will be missing in action.

GotGlock21......don't worry I've been doing the same thing, for the last 4 weeks I've been eating everything I can get my hands on because I keep thinking "well I can't eat this after I get my band".

Today I went for my last pre op visit to the clinic and surprisingly I have not gained a pound......maybe due to nervous tension and stress!!!

Don't be too tough on yourself....so what if you gain a couple of pounds, you'll soon lose it after your op.

Cheers Jo...........4 days to go :clap2:

I'm getting banded on August 15 and am having some serious last supper meals. :( Not proud of it though. I just scheduled my consults with the nutritionists and bariatric nurse where I get all the detailed info on the post-op diet. It's in 2 weeks, so I'm trying to make sure I don't gain any weight between now and then. Losing would be nice, but I'm not going to beat myself up if I don't. That will happen soon enough once I'm banded! :)

As for Vegas, we were there in June for my 30th. I highly recomend the Breakfast buffet at Harrah's. It was awesome! Treasure Island, on the other hand, was horrible. Have fun and win lots!

Ah yes, that wonderful thing I've heard referred to as last meal syndrome.

I got my Aug 31st date back in June. Plenty of time to lose the 10 -15 pounds my Dr asked me to by eating well, right? Well, except I spent the first 3 weeks eating all kinds of stuff, going to buffets and the like, and gained almost 7 pounds. Opps. So, now I'm doing Slim-Fast for Breakfast and lunch, veggies for a snack and dinner is lean Protein and veggies, maybe a little rice.

I did have to laugh at myself though when I realized I was planning my splurges once I'd lost what I'm supposed to, and thinking about how to maintain the loss until surgery... :faint:

I plan one big splurge meal out. My BD about a week before my surgery, so I'll do one blow-out dinner and that is my only last-supper!

I've been on a "last supper syndrome" rollercoaster. I thought I would hear about my surgery date alot sooner but have been having insurance blues.Once I was denied I went downhill fast. I think I've gained 14 lbs. in 2 months. I can't take it much longer. I've been saying fond ,and long, "goodbye's to things that weren't supposed to take this long.

I love cici's pizza and I am going there and tearing it up. lol I love their cin rolls. and they are so fluffy i doubt i wuld be able to get them down after band. So I am rewarding myself for being good all week... lol weird thinking i know.....

BabyJessica,

Don't worry about the restaurants! You will still be able to eat out. I live in NYC and I ate at the Rainbow Room this past Sunday. I go out to eat several times a week. I'm just careful to order something that is reasonably healthy, then I let the band do the rest (portion control). I've never even had anyone notice that I was eating slowly or with smaller bites.

For me, the band is the perfect tool! Remember, you get to choose the level of restriction you want. For me, I choose to be filled enough to dim the head hunger and reasonably control portion size, but to be able to eat literally any food (even the cripsy part of the bread, though I don't usually want it -- takes up too much room).

That said, to all pre-bandsters, there's nothing wrong with enjoying your last few days without guilt. Just REALLY commit to your pre-op diet if you have one. You'll feel much better going into surgery knowing you did your part in seeing that it goes smoothly.

I didn't do too much to prepare for the surgery other than read the literature and attend the support group. Its an exciting time. As far as Las Vegas....girl...have fun. You will not be able to eat like that again so enjoy it. The only thing I had before surgery was 24 hours on liquids, nothing more. Hope you enjoy the next month. Its an exciting time. Don't worry about a thing. My surgery was a breeze. Good luck!

Well, I am glad I am not alone. I can't wait to be like Paul man, Lose all this freakin weight. I am at a huge 369 lbs right now. But I want to get down to 200 lbs

So everyone had the "Last Supper" I am going to have mine when I go to Las Vegas.

*Bug* that is what I am doing. Man and then I feel guilty, but then I think a few more weeks, a few more weeks. LOL I will check out the Breakfast buffet. Heck yah. LOL

*Just Paul* You lost a heck of a lot? that is only in 9 months? Do you work out like crazy?

*Lisa* You started the liquid diet? How is the slim fast shake? I should start that a week before I go to surgery. What is your big last meal going to be? :(

*KellBelle* I am sorry about that, have you tried to appeal it? I hope that you do get approved.

*JenMomTo3* pizza.. MMmmmmm I might have that, it has been a while, but Cali has only the blah pizza's. Back East in Connecticut they had the REAL REAL pizza. LOL hahaha I might get one tho this weekend.

*JulieNyC* So you can eat the resturant food? Just in small portions. That makes me happy. LOL

4 More weeks and I can't WAIT!!!!!!!!

It's not bad. I'm doing the "high protein" version and actually like the taste of both the vanilla and chocolate.

My last big meal is going to be at a local casino. They have a great buffet. Prime rib, lots of other goodies and wonderful deserts. I'm going to to, and for once eat what I want without feeling guilty. Just for once.

Last week I had lunch with 2 associates that did not know I was banded. I ordered salmon with a side of cottage cheese and declined the salad (since I'm still in the first 4 wks of surgery). I ate the cottage cheese and half of the salmon and took the rest home and heated it up for dinner. I must admit it was probably the first time in my life I've ever taken anything home since I normally cleaned my plate...thus the weight issue, huh??? :(

It felt wonderful to do that and I was so proud of myself. Also remember you can always order off the appetizer menu...smaller portions and you can control your Protein and carb intake.

As for the last supper syndrome...yep, I bet we've all done it, whether it was before the pre-op diet or the night before the surgery. No worries...a week or two after the surgery it will not seem like it's that big a deal. Remember to eat Protein first and then veggies and fruits. The protein really keeps down the hunger.

Good luck all...we can do this!

:faint: :faint: :faint: :faint: :faint: :faint: :(  :)

I was put on a pre-op diet, which was not bad at all. My doctor had me on a modified Atkins. So just watched my fat intake (kinda) and cut out the carbs.

I too had many meals that were over the top before surgery. I would certainly enjoy your trip to Vegas and not be overly concerned about the eating of the buffet thing. Everybody has a few last meals. But you will be able to eat again..so It's not really a last meal :hungry:

Luckily I didn't have to do a liquid diet, so I didn't really freak out from lack of food...

Best wishes to you. ...have fun in Vegas...oh and BTW :kiss I have a Glock23

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
