Pre-op diet anxiety

Recommended Posts

Today is my 2nd day of my preop diet, and im getting tremendous amount of anxiety. Even though im drinking the Protein Shakes, i get hungry constantly. Im on summer vacation so im mostly home all day n I guess its out of boredom that I eat. I do eat the things allowed but im eating to much of it. My dad brought chinnese food for dinner and I had to,lock myself in the room so I wont go and eat. I hope this feeling will pass soon.

Today was my second day on the Pre-Op diet also. I have found that I am totally obsessed with food and this has been a huge wake-up call for me. I have a massive headache today and total crazy thoughts yesterday about not being able to eat. Then I start doubting my decision to have the surgery.

I know that I need this surgery and the discipline that I will achieve by being on this pre-op diet. I pray this is the beginning of a life free from the control that food has over me. Hopefully we can do this with the support that is here in this group. My surgery is August 20. When is yours?

the night before my surgery I was convinced my surgeon was not a real surgeon. I stayed up all night researching his name and trying to find info on him and when I couldn't I flipped out. I didn't want to do it, I was super nervous....I can understand your hesitation and all I can say is that I'm 2 weeks out and feel it's the best decision i have made and I don't really feel hungry. When I feel hungry it's the kind of hungry you can work with or ignore and alot of time the hunger is gas. As for your dad with the chinese.....it's just something you have to learn to deal with, and it seems you did the right thing. Once you have the surgery, you will like the smell of food but you can stop yourself from eating it. Before when I smelled food it was an automatic hunger response but now I smell it and I feel like "wow that smells good, can't have it right now but maybe later...." Remember that being without the foods you love is temporary....eventually you will be able to eat, only in smaller quantities. Hang in there!!!

I was sleeved July 25 and have not been hungry since, but I remember the first few days of the liquid were the hardest. I even cheated, I ate celery, just to have a crunch. It got easier when I decided to always have Water in my hand, morning noon and night, if my tummy growled I drank water, Ice water worked best, towards the end I started putting crystal light packets in it, that also helped. The easy part is there are no choices to make. You simply can't eat. It will all be worth it in the end. Just keep your eye on the prize. Good Luck

I can't wait for my liquid pre-op diet as that means i am so close to surgery date (which I don't have yet). I have been drink mostly liquids in preparation for the non food days and don't seem to get hungry. IF tummy growls, it gets liquids of some kind. I am glad I am taking this time to get ready for the new life style and changes in my life. Best of Luck on your journey, please keep us posted on your surgery and how your are dealing with everything. This forum is so helpful. :D

My surgery is September 1st. For some odd reason, no one talked to me about the two week pre-op diet. I just happened to call in two days ago to ask about another concern and they asked me how I was doing on my two week diet. I had no idea what they werre talking about. They called the surgeon and he said if I stay totally on Protein Drinks only for the following 6 days he could still do the surgery. I will say I have lost 60 pounds on my own, so I know my liver has to be smaller than it was. Does anyone know if I can drink something like Crystal Light as well as the Water along with my 5 Protein Shakes a day?

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
