i was sleeved on monday, july 25th and let me just say that i was totally NOT prepared for the pain and discomfort that i have been thru these past 3 days. I knew it wouldn't be easy but I have been having so much discomfort, its awful. I am home now and must say feel better than the first 2 days. I am having trouble drinking Water, i try to drink about 5 - 6 little ounce cups of water per day. I have had sugar free frozen popsicles, and also Jello. I also tried some of my Protein Shake today and it went down ok. My discharge papers says I am to be on a liquid diet for 2 weeks. so maybe some of you can help me out on what you had to eat. and also please tell me that it does get better. ive been reading about some kind of drainage thing, what is that?

i have more pain on my right side, i think thats the side they took the stomach out of. ive had a c-section before and this is nottthing like that pain at all, totally different. any encouragement that could be given, id really appreciate it. thanks

hi -

i was sleeved on july 21 and the first two days were very uncomfortable for me also - but because of the gas in my stomach and abdomen they used during the surgery. walking really helped that go away. my doctor told me to be on Clear liquids the first week (water, fruit juice, Jello, broth, popsicles...along with Protein supplements) and then for the second week move into full liquids (vegetable juice, Protein shakes, strained cream Soup - basically liquids without solids or solid chunks.

depending on the surgeon and the patient - sometimes a drain is used...if you had one you would definately know it. my surgeon did use a q drip ball, basically a slow releasing pain medication that we pulled out at the end of the second day. my right side is also tender and a little tight sometimes - i think that is because that is the location of the largest incision and where they removed the stomach. i sleep on my side and still can't sleep in my bed, so for now i sleep in a recliner.

i just reached the one week mark, and believe me it does it better. please don't get discouraged. short term discomfort for long term payoff :)

For liquids, I had Tomato Soup with plain yogurt stirred in, chicken broth, Protein Shakes, plus pretty much anything I could whizz in a blender and thin out to the consistency of a thick liquid. I could only get one or two tablespoons down at first. I had trouble getting in my Water, too, my urine was dark for ages but I forced myself to drink so I wouldn't end up in the ER with dehydration and you must drink more than 6 oz. in a day. Sip, sip, sip, and walk, walk, walk, use your spirometer and take big deep breaths so you expand your lungs and don't get pneumonia. If your surgeon gave you a drain you would know it, so if he/she didn't (some don't) that is one less annoying thing to deal with. I did not have much pain but I slept most of the first week when I wasn't walking or drinking something. Day by day you will feel better and in a few months, you'll feel and look great.

i was also sleeved on monday. as far as the Water concumption goes-- try room temp. fluids..they seem to go down WAY easier... also, the more you drink..the easier it seems to get. i have been lucky tho and havent had much pain after my surgery day.. no gas pain... just sore. i hope you start feeling better soon!

I walked a TON after surgery and I felt better each day. You gotta get yourself moving even if it's the last thing you want to do. I made some chicken noodle Soup and strained the broth from it. I lived on that my first week as well as Protein Shakes. Second week, I added some cottage cheese and French onion soup (onions filtered out). I did not have a drainage tube, so I know nothing about those. I am looking forward to when I can eat something with consistency, but I know it will still be awhile.

It does get better each day. The first 2 days were the worst for me. I had Clear Liquids for the first 2 days, then full liquids and pureed starting on day 3. I have to say that the first time I had pureed tuna mixed with a bit of low-fat miracle whip on day 3 I immediately started feeling better. However, that may not be allowed on your plan because it is a puree. For full liquids, broth, Water, crystal light/mio, Isopure (although I couldn't stand it), Jello, etc. I would start with those. Then as you can tolerate it, include things like pureed low-fat cream Soups that are rather runny or pureed vegetable Soup - again make sure it's really runny. Check with your surgeon and dietician to know what exactly they will allow you to use. Each surgeon is different in their requirements.

Try different temperatures of liquids too. Many people say that room temperature or warm Water goes down best for them. For me, it was ice cold plain water that went down best.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
