HOw much should we eat one month post op?

Recommended Posts

lunch and dinner are usually 1/2 cup of dense Protein and 1/2 cup of vegetables. tonight it was 3.1 oz of shrimp (7 pcs), 1T cocktail sauce. 1/2 c. frozen chopped cooked broccoli with a melted laughing cow triangle thingy of cheese.

for lunch I had 5-6 oz. of grilled seasoned chicken breast with onions and swiss cheese. I ate about 2/3 then baggied up the rest and finished it for my afternoon snack. (this was 1/2 of a coworkers leftover sandwich (got rid of the grinder roll it came on) so that's why I am guessing on the measurement)

i usually have a shake for Breakfast, a mid morning snack (1/2 c CC or a string cheese stick) , lunch (above), an afternoon snack (yesterday it was 6 cherries, today nothing as I was full from lunch), and dinner (above). anywhere from 650-800 calories total. I use myfitnesspal.com to track my intake and work hard to make sure I get my Protein in plus high values of my vitamin/mineral needs. even thought I take Vitamins I feel it's best to actually work to eat nutritional stuff, plus I LOVE veggies.

I cannot imagine only getting in tablespoons or 1-2 oz. per meal.....that just doesn't sound like enough nutrition. I guess if you can do protein drinks also but my dr. wants me eating my protein not drinking it. I feel like I get to eat a lot, am very satisfied with what I get to eat and haven't hurled yet ;) so me and my tummy are getting along quite well so far, lol.

I am 4 weeks out and my meals are pretty much spot on to this. I haven't had any problems with foods. I usually don't get over 750 cals. I am satisfied all day. About 3oz is max for dense Proteins. I can have 1/4 egg beaters, I tried 1/2 c. but that was way too much, I could only finish half.

I am 4 weeks out and I am supposed to be on the soft foods diet. I'm trying one food at a time because I experience a lot of discomfort some days.

My diet is as follows:

B: 1/3 cup oatmeal

S: Protein shake

L: 2-3 oz tuna salad or 2-3 oz of chili 1 oz green Beans and onions

S: 2 oz yogurt sometimes smashed peaches

D: 2-3 oz of chicken breast 1 oz veggies

S: 2 oz yogurt

S: SF popsicle or cream Soup

That's about it. I just have to remember to eat slow other wise I have a lot of discomfort. I also switch it up a bit by adding some Saltine Crackers with meals. It makes me super full but I get to crunch something.

I'm 6 weeks out & I'm amazed at what some can eat. After reading this thread I feel like I need to reevaluate my meals. I'm still eating almost 100% Protein ... no veggies usually & I just added 2tablespoons of pineappls to my cottage cheese for the first time yesterday.

B- 1/2 c FF CC (yesterday I added 2 tablespoons of crushed pineapples for the first time) or 1 boiled egg & 1 turkey sausage link or 2 turkey sausage & 1 laughing cow cheese lite

S - laughing cow cheese lite & a few slices of deli meat (don't always eat a snack)

L - laughing cow cheese lite & a few slices of deli meat or 3oz of tilapia

D- 1/2 cup of chicken or shrimp or 3oz of tilapia

I am 4 weeks out and eat 5-6 times each day as directed by my nutritionist. Each meal includes Protein, but I try to alternate fruit, veggies, or whole grain with it. Depending on what I'm eating, I can eat maybe up to 1/2 c. of food - no more. My calorie range is usually 700-800 calories per day.

My surgeon's diet was very liberal with just a few days spent on each phase. Now I can eat just about anything. It's interesting to me that I prefer Protein now. Cookies can sit on the shelf in my pantry and I have no desire for them. Yay!!

Sunny,

I am a little over 4 weeks out and my doctor has yet to allow veggies to my diet so you are not alone. I am eating eggs, cheese, chicken and seafood (minus shrimp), and I eat about 1-2 oz about 4-5 times a day. I thought I was eating too much and stretched my sleeve until this post. Thank you everyone, I feel better now (I love this site!)

I am 6 1/2 weeks out. My doc backed me up to soft stuff for a couple more weeks because I can only eat 2oz of dense Protein and that is it. I am only allowed 3 meals and 1 snack. I am doing ok on liquids and protein but not getting in even half of the goal calories (I figure that is why I've only lost 3 pounds in about a month).

I am almost 5 weeks post op and I can tolerate about half a cup of food, and I'm starting to eat about 4-5 times a day. Need to focus on drinking enough though

I am 11 days out and I kind of feel like my sleeve isn't right as I don't feel the restriction that others seem too feel.

I am still in phase 2 of my food so my daily looks like this.

B 1/2 cup of Fairlife fat free milk w Inspire Protein,

L 1/2 cup of homemade Soup with Protein mix and 1/2 Water (I dont manage to finish this)

D 1/2 Breakstone's fat free cottage cheese

S 1 Dannon Light and Fit yogurt

I am managing somewhere between 50g and 70g of protein and getting 40-70 ozs of Water.< /p>

LondonHawk sometimes I can tolerate more then half a cup and then other times I can barely stomach 1/4 of a cup. It's still a bit hit & miss.

You're still on mostly liquids. It's not uncommon to feel a lack of restriction with them because they don't stay in your sleeve long, they mostly just slide right through.

You will most likely feel more restriction once you're getting more solids in your day.

That is good to know I am thinking that I will try to stay on a partially liquid diet as long as possible. Not sure if anyone else has done this?

I suppose that depends on "partially liquid". What did you have in mind?

I'm sneaking up on 3 months. I can do maybe 4 oz of chicken/beef/pig. Up to 5-6 oz of soft stuff like yogurt. Really depends what it is. Refried Beans completely stuff me full after 3-4 oz

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
