It's time to say hello

Recommended Posts

I have been around here for a few weeks and have even posted once or twice without properly introducing myself. I was fearing getting to know all of you and then being denied by my insurance. :( Now that I have decided to self pay if need be, I am no longer as scared.

So here I go. I am in my early 40's and have been overweight or obese most of my life. Now looking back at my weight history, it seems I went to Weight Watchers every time my BMI got near 40. Argh! So I am now hoping my chronic snoring is sleep apnea! :P On the bright side, my PCP just measured me and I am one inch shorter than I thought I was. (I swear I stood straight.) So yes, I am now happy to be shorter AND I want to have sleep apnea!

My sister in law had gastric bypass years ago, lost 140+ pounds and has been able to maintain it. Despite this, that surgery never appealed to me. Being sleeved is a much better choice for me.

As of right now my husband is being very supportive (he might change if it turns out I have to self pay-lol).

I am hoping to get to know many of you in this journey we have chosen.

I hope the insurance comes through. I have been overweight all of my life, I have not been my current weight since I was a teen. It has been less than two months since surgery and it has already been worth the risk. My diabetes numbers are looking better too. I wish you the best!

Welcome! I was a self-payer too and it was worth EVERY penny. I wasn't interested in gastric bypass either. I originally wanted lap band but my surgeon recommended VSG. I am SOOO glad he did as I LOVE my sleeve. I hope your insurace comes through for you but if it doesn't and you have the means to self pay then go for it.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
