This may be a difficult question for someone to answer, but I would really appreciate some input. My largest incision has a wide, thick, hard scab on it. Each end however is still slightly open and 'moist'. I went in for my one week followup yesterday. They removed the glue and put steri strips on each end. They told me once those ends start closing, I could put neosporin on the scab to soften it. I'm wondering if anyone else experienced this? How long before that scab softens, and comes off? I'm thinking it's going to create a not so pretty scar.

My biggest incision looks like this too. I am going to the doctor tomorrow to have it checked out. I do remember having a spot like this on my c section scar too and thinking it wasn't going to heal. What actually happened is that instead of that part healing outside first, it was healing from the inside up. 4 years later it all looks the same. I'm hoping that my incision is doing the same thing and just healing "backwards".

Thanks for your response. Good luck, and if you don't mind, let me know what you find out when you see your dr.

My largest incision is like this too - but I noticed that there is a "piece" in the center that has come "off" and it looks "normal" where that part of the scab came off. They itch like the dickens, but I don't mind it as much when I saw that.

We were sleeved on the same day. My incisions haven't itched at all yet. I guess I have that to look forward to! lol

Mine started itching Saturday. I know it means they are healing, but it's driving me nuts! I think I'm going to get some benedril today to see if that will help.

I was sleeved the Friday previous to you guys. I have the same thing. Dealing with similar things previously, I have put neosporin on thick and covered with a bandaid. I leave it there for about 6 hours and then remove the bandaid to let it breathe. I find this helps with the itching, too. (but under no circumstance itch it!) Remeber, if you had hair, they also shaved your belly and some of the itching is going to be from the hairs growing back. 3 of the other "holes" have healed over doing this and I have started with Vitamin E oil to reduce scarring.

My surgeon won't let me put anything on the incisions yet. He told me I could get benedryl for the itching though. As soon as I can start putting something on, I will.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
