This is all new to me

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. My sister has encouraged me to visit this website. I'm in counseling at present to discuss the lapband and hopefully will have the procedure done in September. My sister insists that this is the website for the best support and information ever. Glad to be here, thanks for having me. Dorty

Welcome, Dorty! I think this is a wonderful group. I am not comfortable with a support group in a live setting. That's one of the things I hated about WW and Nutrisystems. There is a group available to me at my doctors clinic, but I don't go. I really feel I get all I need right here.

Welcome Dorty, your sister is right, this is one of the best things to have happened to me, finding this site. I do not have a support group available. I live in a rural area, in fact there is not even a Dr. in my state that does the surgery...so this site has been a Godsend. Any question I have or concerns...if I just want to whine...or am bored and want to visit...there are always wonderful people here!

I would suggest you read, anything and everything you can get your hands on regarding the surgery, and the Dr. you choose, as well as the hospital. Make very informed decisions. Some advice given to me, that brought home how serious of a decision it is, was to imagine that you are making this decision for your mother, sister, or daughter. You would only want the best for them, and you too deserve only the best. Personally the band has been wonderful, I feel in control finally...what a unique and wonderful feeling this is!! I wish for you the smooth uneventful surgery I had, and great success!!! Good Luck!

Kat

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
