I am I week post op.. 26 lbs lost and was wondering 1) is that normal to loose that much in 1 week? 2) has anyone had intense esophageal spasms and what did you do about them? 3) intense explosive poopies?!?! Lots of questions and I have called my MD and prescribed more liquid lortab. Any and all suggestions are appreciated.

Oops, forgot to tell you I think it will just take time for those things to fade away. Make sure you take small sips. My bathroom issue ended up being lactose intolerance from all the yogurt. Not sure if this is an issue for you.

I had diarrhea the first couple of weeks. It went away on its own. I did discover I was lactose intolerant and after cutting all milk products except hard cheeses and yogurt, I got down to 2-3 poops per day by day 5. Like others here, after a couple of weeks, I developed a little Constipation and finally got things on an even keel- with an occasional need for a stool softener.

One thing my Dr. told me to watch for: Is the diarrhea really smelly and is it getting worse? If so, that's a sign it might be an errant bacteria that has taken up residence in your intestinal track.

The first few weeks are the worst! Hang in there.

Thanks y'all! This is such a journey! I am excited to take, but it's also scary at times because of the unknown.

Upon leaving the hospital my Doctor prescribed something for the spasms. I only took it a couple of times the first week but it seemed to work well. My spasms completely went away during the 2nd week after surgury. I also when from explosive, runny stools to Constipation almost overnight at about day 10 post op. After six days of no bowel movements I was told to take a dose of Milk of Magnesia. It worked like a charm. I still take a dose every couple of weeks when things get blocked up.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
