I would've totally scheduled my surgery by now.. and now i just wait... you would think a hard workin mom of 4+2 step kido's that has two jobs would be having this issue.. i'm so ready to start my journey.. i hate this waiting crap..

My dad is possibly going to loan me the money but it may not be for awhile... and you know I contemplated selling my grandmothers ring she gave me bless her soul she died last april of cancer. My dad said if i ever feel like i want to sell it he would loan me the money but he's being slow about it... You know it's funny i think my grandma gave it to me just in case i needed money for something.. because it only reminds me of her because i know it was hers.. but she never wore it hardley ever.. is it bad that i even thought about selling it? I keep thinking would she want me to hold on to it just to have it sit in a drawer where nobody see's it because i wouldn't want to ever wear it and lose it... or would she want me to do something with it that would change my life forever??? Making me healthier to live a fuller longer life??

I am a big beleiver in positive thiniking and visuallizing.. big on THE secret book if you have ever read or watched it. good stuff.

So what would you guys do??

I know how you feel. I wouldn't give up the only thing you have to hold from her. That is important to you, and I bet once you give it away you'll miss it. Have you tried looking at no patient left behind. If you have half of the money for surgery they will pay the other half for you.

There's some good surgeons in Mexico who are cheap. At alighterme.com there is Dr. Lopez-Ortega. He has a package deal with hospital stay+hotel stay, pre-op testing, free transportation, free calls to the US & more for only $5,000. The next cheapest I know is Dr. Almanza. I've heard great things about him. He is $5200. I'm going to Dr.Kelly. He has been doing this procedure almost 10 years. His cost is $5,500. If your dad can give you around 2500 you'll be good to go.

I toldly agree too! Once you sell something so near and dear to you, you may instantly regret it. I know what the money means to you and live a longer life my be better than being unhealthy with a cherished item. It's a truly hard call. I am having a hard time getting the money together for my surgery. My doctor feels that my insurance will cover it, but I have spoken with them several times and was told that they don't cover any WLS, at least the insurance package my job has. I am strongly looking into going to Mexico or trying to find some sort of finance company to go thru. I hope all things work out for you kansasgirl!! I'll keep you in my prayers. And msleesa...thanks for the info, I'm going to check it out myself.

I feel the same way.. you guys do.. but not with this ring.. i do have a heart necklace with her ashes in it.. and she gave something i cherish more.. the miniature doll set she and i would play with and her mirror i would always ask about...which is why i think she had some other motive of giving me this ring as it is worth quite a bit and i have no connection to it really other than knowing it was hers. This ring was valued at 8,000 about 12 years ago, but when my dad gave it to me.. he actually made my husband promise him he would tell him if i even thought about selling it...that he would loan me the money instead.. he doesn't realize that i already have the things i cherish and remember most about my grandma... He wan'ts me to pass this down to my children...

I don't know i'm really torn i don't want to let him down but i know she know's i always wanted to be healthier and not so heavy...I hope to get a resolutions soon.. I'm definetly wanting to get surgery..with dr. Kelly Just the waiting and knowing that I don't have to wait for my insurance company to approve anything... I've waited three years for them to even think about covering weight loss surgery... i'm so tired of this battle... Thanks for all the advice msleesa i hope your surgery goes well and recovery is fast and easy!! let us know how you do!!!! Also a change is coming... thanks for your advice as well.. and i say prayers all the time for people y ou will be included in mine :-)

My grandmother my favorite person on this world. I understand your love for her. However, please don't sell the ring. What's meant to be will be. If you truly need this surgery and God knows it will change your life. The money is going to come regardless. He will make a way for you. All I can suggest is finding a loan company if your father can't provide the amount for you, but I'd be sad if you gave up something so beautiful. Best of Luck!

Hi,

I hear what you are saying. There are companies that loan money for medical things. Check with the doctor that you are going to have do your surgery. They can usually give you some names of these places that offer loans for surgery and other medical things. Now I will tell you that their interest rate is high. I had someone say this to me... We never think twice about making a car payment. So why not make "Body Payments." That is just what she was doing.

I was very lucky that I had the money to do this. So Please never give up on the fact that you want to have this done. You are worth the effort it is going to take and you DESERVE to have it. I wish you all the luck in the world.

Hugs,

Suzanne

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
