When does this nausea stop?

Recommended Posts

I had surgery 4 days ago (on Wednesday, it's Saturday here) and I just got home this afternoon...when I was in the hospital I could drink a small cup of Sustagen fine but the ride home made me so nauseated I threw up when I got home and now I just feel constantly nauseated. I have this really disgusting taste in my mouth and I'm only taking the tiniest sips of Water because I'm so scared of throwing up again...it was too painful to describe and I almost felt like I would pass out.

How long were people nauseated after surgery?

I was sleeved on Tues June 28 and was nausauted up until yesterday (Friday). I never threw up but I had the sensation but never did. Nausea hasn't occurred today and I'm hoping it stays that way.

Ooh the nausea has stopped...I still get reflux and nausea if I drink too fast but no longer the constant nausea that I had before. I think the car ride just unsettled my stomach and a nap helped fix things up :) Drank a bit of chicken Soup broth, still can't handle plain Water very well so I'm just brewing red tea and letting it cool a bit.

Yay :) I feel like I'm starting to recover.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
