High White Blood Cell Count found when lab work was done...

Recommended Posts

Hi :) This is my first time posting, although I've been lurking around here (and lap band talk) for weeks. Everyone on here is so nice, helpful, informative, and supportive. Well, I have been struggling with the decision on whether to get the lap band or the gastric sleeve. After my consultation, and after attending a support group and a seminar, and after exploring these forums, I have confidently decided on the sleeve. Yay!! I had my blood work done on Monday. The lady called me today to tell me that my white blood cell count was high. She asked me if I was sick or had an infection of some kind. I told her that I feel fine. I ended up having to go today to get more blood drawn and get a urinalysis. Any ideas on why my count would be high, and/or how I could not know I have an infection of some kind? Could this delay my surgery? I really want to have this done before I return to school (I'm a teacher).

Mine was high too and they said the same thing to me asking if I had been sick! Don't worry, my dr. explained that it was not a big deal and it just means that your immune system works GREAT!! And that your white blood cells are functioning good and are good at fighting off infection!

And that is a GOOD thing!

Kelly :D

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
