how much liquid can a newly sleeved stomach hold?

Recommended Posts

I am newly sleeved and seem to be able to drink fluids with no problem. I'm scared to stretch out my new tummy, but seem to be able to take in more liquids / Soup than I thought. Do u know how much liquid it can hold without causing any damage?

Liquids go right through and won't stretch anything! Hope that helps. Someone posted a video on utube a while back where the doctor actually showed how it works.....might google it and see if you can find it.

consider yourself lucky...

unless it is warm or room temp- I can hardly drink...

I have been sipping all day, and still a bit dehydrated...

Is this anything like the old question "how much wood would a woodchuck chuck"? :drum:

ok, so ppl say that liquid goes right through us, but then why is it that we still can not chug a bottle of water.?? Small sips for what reason??

I am 8 days post op and had my first doctors visit today. I was told that my new stomach would hold around 4 oz. of liquid at a time. I can now drink like normal but NO chugging it down. I was told that until I'm about 6 weeks out, it is possible to bust my staple line if I intake too much liquid at one time, especially thicker liquids like pureed bean Soup, etc. I was also told it should take me about 10-15 minutes to get down 4 oz. ....to pace myself but that I no longer had to sip..wait...sip...wait

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
