Hello,

I am new and reading your posts.I am getting scared also! I think I Only weigh 202 and am 5 ft tall. Do I really need surgery? But then I know I have tried every diet and spent awful amounts of money on diets, gyms, infomercials, etc... And still I am 200+and still 5ft tall. My question is that I can only take one week off from work. I am having surgery July 11 (monday) and returning to work the following Monday. I really dont work physically hard, I sit at a desk and am in meetings for the most part. So what do you think Am I crazy? Any and all advise welcomed. BTW,my BFF is really not happy that I am having this done and is trying to talk me out of it with horror stories.

I had surgery on Monday and went back the following Monday! I was tired, but that was all. I was fine otherwise!

It can be done if you want to do it and don't have any complications! I was sore, but that was the only issue other than anemia that I had.

You can do it if you want to!

Good luck!

Kelly

Don't let your friend change your mind. You made this decision because you know that it's what you want/need to do for yourself. You're not doing this for anyone else but yourself!

I was planning to take only a week. Since I don't have a physically demanding job, the doctor okayed it. I decided to take two weeks after all, and I'm glad I did. Because I caught a terrible cold the day of surgery. I was miserable until about day 9. On day 11 I was back to my happy self. In that first week and a half your tummy is very confused and rumbly, it is hard to drink and stay hydrated, so you may be tired. You will probably still be sore at the incision site. But you know you better than anyone else. If you're a trooper, you can do it, barring even the smallest complication like a cold.

And what a coincidence, my BFF was against my vsg too. But, she is someone who is afraid of surgery in the first place. All you can do is listen to everyone's opinions/advice and then make up your own mind. I wish you the best!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
