I have NEVER considered RNY - ever! And as I get closer to being submitted for insurance I am so worried about making goal! I want to lose the most weight possible! And it freaks me out that there is no long term stats on VSG! I mean there are some big flops out there as far as WLS goes and I am sooo afraid I am picking the wrong one! But really I know I'm not, that it's the best for me and any weight I get off is better than none....ugh I am sure this has to do with not knowing but one person in real life that has had it done and she isn't even a year out....she made goal but what about in 5 years? 10 years? I know it's a tool and I should be able to use it anytime I need to, any time I feel the pounds getting out of control....

A friend of mine had VSG 4 or 5 years ago and she's still at goal, other than being 8 months pregnant. I have another friend who had RNY and gained all her weight back when she returned eating unhealthy. It's all how you make it out to be. If you go back to eating junk you'll gain weight back. This is a commitment that lasts a lifetime, not just til you reach goal.

They have been doing the sleeve for a long time as the first part of the duodenal switch. It is a very effective tool. I really don't have the desire to eat like I used to with the ghrelin reduced. Also, many foods taste different. I don't care for sweet foods and most fatty foods make me sick. VSG is a tool though. I know I have to work out and eat Protein first. If I eat junk (chips, popcorn, etc), I can eat lots of it and it is easy to get off track. I choose to eat protein and mainly fruits or vegetables. I drink my Water every day. I love having restriction and I feel that the sleeve will allow me to get to my goal and stay there.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
