Did I Drink Something Dangerous?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

i had my sleeve done five days ago and was doing very well with everything, however I just realized that a Protein Drink I had this morning had some milk in it. I'm not supposed to have milk for two weeks after surgery, and when I found out I had it by mistake (I was tired and grabbed the wrong Protein shake) I got extremely scared. Is it dangerous/should I call my PA about it? I don't feel any discomfort but I'm really worried that it could have caused damage.

Thank you!

Are you on Clear liquids for 2 weeks? That may be why. Milk is not a clear liquid, but instead a full-liquid. The heavier the liquid, the more pressure it puts on your staple line and you need to take it easy for a while and let it heal. Just be careful!! You don't want a leak!!

I would not worry about it, if you are o.k. Just try to stick to your guidelines and you will be fine!

Kelly

Hi, I was allowed full liquids after 3 days and started drinking skim milk shakes with no problems.

I've never heard the no milk rule from other practices, so I doubt it's dangerous. A lot of people do become lactose intolerant, though, which may be the reason for this rule.

So: If you're not feeling uncomfortable, probably no harm. But I recommend you stick with your practice's rules and not have any more until you're allowed.

You're fine!

Thank you for your reassuring comments! I'm such a worrier unsure.gif I followed all of their rules 100% so I was pretty disappointed over making such a careless mistake. I just called of the RNs and she said it was fine as long as I don't do it again. My doctor said I can't do full liquids until two weeks after the surgery, especially milk since it might cause lactose intolerance. Luckily it doesn't seem to be giving me trouble, but I am overly paranoid about leaking.

I was given milk in the hospital the day of my surgery! Milk and lemonade.......yeah, that's what I want to put on my raw stomach-staple line....lemonade!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
