On my 3rd week stall... so Disappointed :(

Recommended Posts

Well saw my Dr on Thursday and he said he was disappointed I wasn't losing fast enough I should have lost more.. I wanted to cry.. I've been trying to get in the 800 calories but for some reason I was still trying to get under the 10 for Fat and 30 for Carbs over 80 Protein and it wasn't working for me... I don't know what else to do... I'm worried now that I'm failing the sleeve...

I met with our support group yesterday and it was our exercise person telling us we all need to work out, etc... but I have no energy to work out Im' tired all the time.

I know i've cried to Tiffykins and everyone else... I'm so sorry for being a whineybutt and pest... Anyone have any ideas what I can try next?

And for the record I met someone from our board yesterday at our support meeting MakMama and let me tell ya.. she's freakin stunning and such an awesome woman that has a wonderful & beautiful family!! Make sure you friend her and say hello :)

I'm confused.

Your ticker says that you've lost 30lbs in 50 days...that's about 1/2 pound per day. 3lbs per week. 14+ lbs per month How much faster are you supposed to be losing???blink.gifblink.gifblink.gif

If you continue at the rate you are going you'll be at goal in 6-7months.

I would reccomend you tell your surgeon to shove his pessimism where the sun don't shine. tongue.gif

Also...you're only eating 10grams of fat per day? That's crazy. I shoot for 30grams which is still less than half of the daily recommended value. Many people NEED fat in order to function at a reasonable level. I would wonder if you are one of them. Would you be willing to up your fat intake for a couple of days and see if you feel better?

Thanks... :) I use www.fatsecret.com and my login is SpunkyLilDIva and my pass is iphone I thought I've been losing grant it it's like been 223 then 221 and then it goes back up then it goes down and he says I'm at a plateau... I thought that meant the scale stays on one weight for 3 weeks.. he said I should be down at least 40-50 on my 7th week... I'm so confused..

I did get those Protein shots you were talking about and i like those... please tell me what I'm not eating or shouldn't eat or change... I only eat maybe 4 bites cause Im scared of filling up but others say I'm not eating enough... UGH I'm so confused... :)

I just looked and it seems like you're doing ok as far as food intake overall.

I think your surgeon may have an unrealistic goal in his head. For someone to lose 45lbs in 7weeks they would have to average a 6.5lb loss per week. Is it possible...sure...but is it reasonable to expect EVERYONE to meet that goal. ABSOLUTELY NOT! Keep plugging away, you WILL get there. It won't be on your surgeons schedule (the ass) but you WILL get there.

I agree with apple-saucy !! I thik u r doing gre8t - when I went to see my surgeon at my 2 month check I had lost 34 lbs in 2 months. I asked how I was doing cuz I thought I should be losing faster. His response was if you were a rny patient I would expect u to lose 33 lbs in 3 months and you have lost 34 lbs in 2 months - you are doing great. Because supposedly RNY patients lose weight faster. So if you are asking me I think you are doings just FINE!! Keep up the GRE8T WORK!!

Wow!! That's a lot of weight he thinks you should lose...I am 10 wks out and have lost a total of 42 lbs. My doc thinks I am right on schedule. I agree with the others...you are doing super!! I also hit a stall that lasted 2-3 wks when I was 3 wks post-op.

Do you measure yourself? It's been said several times on the forums that although you may not be losing lbs, you may still be losing inches! Chin up!! You are doing great in my eyes!! :)

I think you're doing great....don't let anyone pressure u. I have been moaning and groaning as well about my stall...i guess they really are part of the process.

I also agree with applesaucy...i dont really monitor my fats...only Proteins and carbs...for the most part if your carbs and Proteins are in line, then your fats will fall in line also.

I upped my Water yesterday to over 80 ozs and my proteins were over 80 and my carbs at 30...my calories yesterday were about 750.

my stall lasted about a week and a half...

I think your surgeon is a pompous butt! I cannot believe he would tell a patient something like that especially considering how much you have lost! YOu are doing fine my dear....

Ok, first of all, you're losing at a good clip -- I think you're doing a fantastic job. No worries about your weight loss. Second, your doctor has unrealistic expectations of weight loss -- EVERYONE loses at a different rate. If you only lost 5 lbs in 50 days, then I'd say something is going on, but you're doing great.

Second, YOU MUST INCREASE YOUR FAT. Since you are keeping your carbs low, your body needs fuel for its energy. Fat is the only other option left. I'm betting once you increase your fat, your weight loss will increase (not that you need to be a rocket at weight loss, but I bet it will increase.) Right now, because you have low calories, low carbs, low fat, your body is fighting the weight loss because it thinks it's in starvation mode. Give it something so that it will release the fat at a faster rate. :)

And really, the doctor is setting unrealistic expectations. Truly. Big hugs! :)

I had my 6 week post-op appointment yesterday. I had lost 25 lbs since surgery on April 12, 40 since pre-op. I have experienced two stalls. One at week two that lasted 12 days. The other now at week six that is currently at 6 days. My nutritionist said to increase Protein to 70-80 grams per day and to stop counting calories or carbs. Also, be sure to get in the 64 oz of Water. Since I had only been averaging about 55-65 grams of protein per day I have to step up my game. My doctor said my BMI was 6 points lower than before surgery and at six weeks out he considers that "normal." I wish the stalls would go away!

I'm going to echo Julia's suggestion on fat grams. Your body needs fat, I'm not talking unhealthy, fried food yummy badness, but throw yourself some Peanut Butter, avocado chunks in there and then push clear fluids. Starvation mode isn't going to happen until your body exhausts all of it's fat stores, but your body does need good healthy fats to function. I had zero fat intake guidelines. Strictly to get in Protein, cut carbs, and push fluids. Eating full fat stuff worked fabulously for me, and I can honestly say that when I started looking at the fat free "light" stuff, it was full of sugar(carbs), and sodium. Those 2 things will stall out weight loss quicker than anything.

Don't get frustrated, and don't give up.

Co-sign.

If you are doing low carb you MUST intake more fat. Your body is burning fat for fuel, and if you don't intake more, your body is going to steal nutrients from your muscles and organs. It's really important, please intake more healthy fats. You can get this from many good things, Olive Oil, Avocados, Fish... :)

Also, wow - your surgeon is not being really caring either. YOU ARE NOT FAILING!! Most people do endure stalls of some sort from time to time. We all just have to push through them.

xoxo

I'm sorry but your doctor is a douche.

Up your fats as suggested. You will have more energy to work out and a better mental outlook - the brain needs healthy fats to function. Keep on keepin' on!

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
