At four months out, my scars are still pretty red. How long did it take for yours to fade? Thanks!

Hey Becca-

I'm only 10 weeks out but mine are starting to look decent. They've now moved from red to that purplish-pink color scars take. I think it has a lot to do with your skin tone, type, etc. I have been using skin therapy oil by Palmers that combines coco butter and shea butter. I use that on the lovely new stretch marks that keep popping up too.

I would like to also know what creams, oils, etc. others are using that they find successful. Good idea for a post!

Amanda

When my mom had surgery before I remember her scars taking a very very long time to fade. I think it does vary from person to person. I don't know for sure though, so hopefully someone with more experience can help you out as well :)

Vitamin E oil is great for scar healing. If you get the scar while it is still pink. I had a big scar on my face when I was a kid and my mom put vitamin e on it twice a day. You can hardly see it now!

You can find it near the Vitamins.< /p>

Good luck!

Kelly :)

I had surgery on the 18th I have been using Mederma scar gel ever since the scabbing went away. I am very happy with the way my scars look. Very little discoloration. I also bought Mederma stretch mark therapy. This stuff is kind of pricey though.

Mine are still quite purpley-red, especially against my oh-so-pasty skin. I do use a prescription anti-scar cream that is helping, I need to be better about using it every day.

what's the name of the cream? and how soon after surgery can you start using it?

The cream is called Gorgonium, but I'm not sure they have it everywhere, or if it goes by another name in different countries? I had to wait six weeks before I could start using it -- I originally used it for my very large open-hysterectomy scar and that one is now white like my skin and barely visible at all.

I was just going to post a thread about this today. Been wondering how long after surgery to wait to apply bio oil. I want to start as soon as possible but i dont want to cause any irritation either!

Do you only have a single scar? I can't see more than one!! Yours look SOOO good in comparison to mine. My incisions were closed with staples as well, so they have those little dots all along the sides of the incision scars. LOVELY. I don't know why they can't just use surgical glue or steri-strips (which is what I had on my hysterectomy scar that's turned out so good). Sigh. JEALOUS. :D

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
