When you get to eating regular food (whatever that is), is sushi in real moderation allowed? How about pizza, if you eat just the cheese, some meat, and the sauce (no crust)?

I've talked to several people about pizza. Two friends had surgery about 6 weeks ago and they both said that they can eat about half a slice of pizza.

I am a sushi addict, I stick to it!! I have add it on my soft up till now!! and it is WOW!

Sashimi, Temaki, and I remove the rice so I Can have more Protein in, although when I had the rice it didnt bother me:) I will go with the sushi, little calories less bad fat, loads of good nutrition and really zero carbs if u have no rice.

My doc said anyting I want once your onto the REAL food stage...just go slow and try one new thing at a time so you know what worked and what didn't.

I would personally choose sushi...I miss it sooo much, but can't imagine rice working for me yet. Doc said it can feel 'stuck' because its a doughy consistancy, I'm not ready to have anything feel any worse than I do somedays already...lol.

pizza I have been craving so I made a mini one on a piece of a wrap, just added some sauce and mushrooms and low fat shredded cheese. I ate about half of what I made..but it helped quench the craving (obviously "head hunger: but hey, in moderation I'll feed my head hunger sometimes!) Hope this helps.

I have sushi all the time at work (at the airport). Sine the guy knows me I ask him to cut the pieces in half since I have to chew so well. I can still only have about half the roll but a love me my Philly roll.

I eat pizza all the time, but held off until I got to maintenance. I can eat 1 slice of medium size pizza minus the top crust.

As for sushi, I only eat the cooked with rice, and I can eat about 3-4 small slices. It's one of my favorite things in the world. That sashimi stuff is allowed in soft food stage, and many people love it for an easy Protein source. I'm just not a fan of eating stuff that isn't cooked.

Mmmm Sushi! I have been eating sashimi for a few weeks now. (couple times/per week, I've been addicted for years now!) It's one of the only things that doesn't make me feel crummy after I eat it, and was going thru withdrawal in the 6 weeks I couldn't eat it. If I order nigiri, I don't eat the rice and have poked the insides of a roll out and skip the rice on that too. We had our sushi chef make a few yummy rolls and wrap them in cucumber instead of rice, sooooo good! I only ate 1-2 pieces of that since I didn't want to overdue it on the raw veggies.

I'm one of the odd balls who doesn't like pizza, so I guess that's my saving grace, cause I'm sure I would be craving that too!

Hi,

I ate sashimi (sushi without rice) as soon as I got to soft foods. Rice is too filling for me, so I skip the nagiri. Luckily, the sushi place I go to has a "no rice" roll wrapped in sliced cucumber.

I can eat a half a slice of pizza without eating the top rolled crust, but it gives me heartburn, so I have only had it once. Not worth the pain. You'll find lots of things taste different after the sleeve and you may not like something you used to like.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
