Hi, I am narrowing down surgeons and because I am a self pay I am trying to find out as much info as possible.

I am looking for a US surgeon that does the sleeve using the spider.

Has anyone used Dr. Yu ?

I have also inquired about Dr. Qubbeman and had very positive responses. I am so thankful for this forum because I feel overwhelmed and I am finally ready to move forward asap, now I just the Dr. :) So if you know of any surgeons doing the spider single incision surgery, I would be truly grateful for any information!

I live in Ohio and as far as I can tell there is not a Dr. here that does this paticular type of surgery. I wish traveling was not the only option, but I will.

Thank you all so much for your opinions, your kind words and the endless time that I know you have researched to help so many (like me)!

Best wishes to all in their journey to a better you!!!

Like you I was also a self pay. I used Dr. Yu because he was recommended by my sister's plastic surgeon as a doc who is a good technician and his patients don't have a lot of issues. My sis lives in Houston so it worked out perectly. They want you to stay in town at least a couple of weeks post surgery so I had no problem with that. My recovery has been pretty noneventful so far. . Yu I found to be nice and easy to talk to. He is very realistic about the risks of surgery and does not have a rose colored glasses attitude. We have to do our part.

Anyway prior to surgery he told me it would be one incision in my navel area and maybe one additional one if needed in the left abdominal area. That is what I had. The small one is extremely small (like a puncture) and the navel one is curved (I have an innie navel and its hard to see). I am so glad I decided to go to Houston as I had not come across any docs in the Atlanta area doing the spider and they were al more expensive than Dr. Yu. If you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask.

Oh yeah the office was very accommodating as far as me being from out of town. I had my psych, nutrician, and surgeon appt. on a Thurs. and surgery on Monday. I really appreciated that.

Hi: I read your post. You might also interview Dr. Marvin , www.doctormarvin.com

He does the single incision. I might add that it is only an option if you are on the smaller side.

It must be technically possible to get at the stomach from one incision in order for the MD to do this technique.

Just thought I'd let you in on that since it is not possible for every patient.

Good luck.

Thank you.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
