Mow much more weight lost after revision?

Recommended Posts

I had the Lap Band from July 08-Feb 11. Got sleeved a bit more than a week ago. I was 350pre band and was down to 235 at one point. I got sleeved at 260. I went down to 250 fast but stalled out 5 days ago. Been in a stall. Havnt had more than 800 calories a day. Been walking a bit here and there, I guess its just a stall. My real question is can I expect to lose a lot more? Like the initial big weight loss others get with WLS? The stall has me wondering. My plan is to be able to eat better than I could with the band yet still have restirction and get under 200 pounds. I know its a tool and I need to work it. Anyone already 50-100lbs down and still have an initial big loss?

I had a revision from band to sleeve. I really think you are in a stall. I lost 22 pounds my first month, which I was very happy with. Everyone is so different, so it is hard to say how much you will lose. (Although ten pounds is pretty big in a week!) The biggest and fastest success I have seen is from those who do extreme low carbing (30 grams or less). Exercise is also important. I have found the sleeve to work very well and consistantly. Just be patient! I know you want that big huge loss, but what I love about the sleeve is that the pounds are staying off. I had major regain with the band when it failed me. I have times when I stall and times when I lose lots. If you stick to the plan, it will work!

Thanks. I was most enthusiastic about keeping the weight off and not gaining anymore. Id like to get back to 235 and see what happens from there. I know I will ever get to my ideal weight but under 200 would be nice. The 10 pounds is nice but I yoyo ten pounds at the drop of a hat.

You'll get to where you want to be if you follow the rules, Protein first veggies if there is room.

Of course if you sneak in thing that you aren't supposed to eat, it will effect your weight loss.

I have to keep reminding myself that this is just a tool not a magic cure. chocolate goes through the sleeve like it's not even there. It's up to me

to say no.

Hip, this surgery is amazing. I have no doubt you could get yourself to any weight you'd like. If you wanted to lose more than 235, I'm willing to bet you would. I'm a revision and yes, I gained with my band. I'm far below my lowest with my band weight now - and really I don't feel like I'm bottoming out at all. Like Denise said, as long as you're following the sleever rules of eating, it will eventually come off.

I stall here and there but over time I think I've grown very confident that it will come off down the line when it's time. :) I just dropped 8 Lbs in 3 days right now. Then I also just had a 3 week stall right before this too. Just hang tight, and give it some time. :)

Thanks a lot. I was hoping to drop a quick 40 the next two months so I will just have to see what my body wants to do.

My surgeon told me that I should lose 75% of my excess weight over the first year. Since I have over 200 lbs to lose, I will probably a lot of weight quickly, but it will slow down the closer I get to goal.

Based upon your post you have about 70 pounds to lose. Using the same formula, you should lose about 50 pounds in the first year. That means, your rate of weight loss will be slow but steady. I'm just going off of the information that my surgeon gave me. I hope that helps! smile.gif

I dropped weight incredibly quickly post my revision. I had 115lbs to lose, and did it in 6.5 months. So, I'm a firm believer that weight loss after revision can be just as quick as virgin WLS patients. Stalls will happen after any WLS and they'll pass too.

Just keep plugging away, push fluids, Protein and stay positive.

Hi,

I am 6 weeks out from my revision and I have lost 20 pounds. That is about 30% of my excess weight. You can definitely lose with VSG after the band :-)

I am waiting for my sleeve surgery. Generally, tho, if you rev up the activity and drink more fluids, plus follow your diet 100%, you will break the stall. Look at it this way: your body is shrinking, so this stalling is the time needed for your body to get used to the smaller size. I bet if you measure, inches will have come off. Hang in there!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
