5 days pre-op and lost 5 lbs. I was wondering if the pre-op HAS to be the whey Protein isolate? Could I just count the number of Protein I take in my consumption? Like with smoothies made with 2% milk and greek yogurt etc?

Everyone's doctor has different rules. For my doc, protein is protein. I'm supposed to be liquid, high protein, low carb. But a serving of yogurt and milk won't hurt (you might try switching to 1%, it makes a huge difference). I even had some Optifast Soup, since my surgeon's office also does Optifast for folks whose insurance won't cover surgery.

You are suppose to count every Protein you take in as you final count.. Yep the 2% has a lot of carbs in them. I would go to skim or !%. I think my skim has 13 grams of carbs per 6 oz cup. You are suppose to stay under 50 carbs during preop and post op. It don't take too many smoothies to get you over your goal mark..

My nutritionist recommended Atkins shakes for preop

because they are convenient and have a little more fat than

some of the other ones so they help you feel full.

They taste really good too.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
