thanks, I am concerned my grandson, age 6, might not see me as the same grandma.

Do you see him regularly? I think at age six they are more focused on our faces and voices then size.

I have two grandkids. I just had surgery in July and have only lost 34 lbs thus far - but I don't think the kiddos will even notice. They are in their own 'little world' and I don't think my looks are a priority for them:)

I have 3 grandkids that are extremely PROUD of their grandma! My granddaughters (19 & 15) each got into a leg of my 46" waist jeans to take pics! I love to do "The Biggest Loser Thang" with the jeans and also the 26/28W shirt. I will have them forever to know where I came from and where I am today.

One memory that comes back to haunt me is when we were at an amusement park on a ride & the bar would not close so we were made to get OFF ~ I was devastated and embarrased.

I was 51 when my wife gave birth to twins, she was 51 too. Had the VSG surgery at age 54 (8 months ago). The kids were 2 at point of my surgery. I had the surgery to be around for them. I am stay at home dad and just could not keep up with everything. It's amazing the transformation in energy and ability to handle my life now. The kids didn't really notice the gradual changes they just know Daddy is a lot more fun now.....This VSG surgery is the single most important event of my life!

Luanne,

Same thing happen to me...well sort of. We were at Universal Studios Orlando and they asked me to get in the line for bigger people so I had to get out of the ride with my daughter and go back and stand in the fat line. I was embarrassed and haven't wanted to go to a park since. If we do go I just ride the ones where there are no seat belts. I will be sleeved on June 18th and can't wait!

My grandchildren are 7 and 9, and so far they haven't noticed. I can remember being 7 and not noticing that they next door neighbor was heavily pregnant. My older sister pointed out the big belly and explained to me what was happening.

I don't think it will matter. I agree with the other poster that young children focus on faces and voices.

Thanks kyllfalcon..you are so kind! I know you kid but really being a retired father of twin newborns in your 50;s is far from the difficult task that most think. Maturity, reasonably financial independence, well traveled and having patience goes for the most part with being in your 50's. Combine that with being HEALTHY now and like magic you are perfectly prepared for parenthood. I wouldn't trade my life now for anyone on earth, really. Now, being the primary caregiver and all that goes with that is a LOT of work but compared to the stress and strains of the "outside" work world combined with the rewards (non-monetary of course) it is truely a blessing and a gift from God! People need to take a 2nd look at parenthood in later life, especially if for whatever reasons you never had children before then. p.s. I have a 33 year old son too!

That is encourageing, spartymsu. At 42, I often feel that ship has sailed, but you prove it isn't too late!

I just had my surgery on Monday knowing that my daughter was expecting her first child, my first grandchild, this past Wednesday. I was a little nervous about having the surgery so close to the due date. I told my daughter we needed to think positive thoughts and that Sunday, May 20th would be the best day for the baby to be born. We had several other things going on in the family and this would work for those things also. Well, guess what! My daughter is at the hospital right now and it looks like her little girl will be born on the 20th! See what positive thinking can do.

I planned on getting a decent night's sleep and then head to the hospital in the morning but of course I can't sleep. My husband conked right out!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
