Middle of week 2 after surgery. If I eat mashed potatoes (etc.) now, what's the worst that could happen?

Recommended Posts

I'm in the liquid phase (soup, pudding, etc.) but this is just awful :(

My question: if I slowly start eating stuff like mashed potatoes now (as opposed to 5 days from now), what's the worst that could happen? Is it dangerous?

My surgeon does clears 7 days then mushies 21. My cousin had her vsg on 3/21/22 and she is eating tuna salad, egg salad, cottage cheese at 20 days out today. She is doing fine. Thin mashed potatoes should be fine. That being said Please be careful!!! Are you 10 days out?

I am sorry but I am going to tell you to please stick to your doctor's plan. I know the liquid stage is terrible but you only have a few more days left. Have your tried blending Soups and straining out any chunks? Maybe you could have a cream of potato Soup if you did that. Despite the wide range of diets and timelines to change to different types of food here on the board, it's my opinion that you should stick to what your doctor said. You picked him or her because you thought they were good, right?

Blend the mashed potatoes with milk and unflavored Protein Powder and think you should be okay

add milk to the mashed potatoes so they are very runny. Think a new baby eating food for the first time..not pasty, not watery, but very runny. I did this 1 week after surgery and the nutritionist said it was fine. Just make sure you take looooong breaks in between bites to make sure you don't puke.

@ cwalker:

Yes, I'm 10 days in right now. Great knowing about your cousin. Thanks a lot for the reply :)

That's great, you might try some baby food, heard from others it was good too! You'd have the flavor with the pureed.lol

I just had my nutrition class today and the lady told me if you do something bad, it'll either come up or it'll just sit there in a painful lump. It'll either be okay or it won't, but if it's not, you could be in for some misery.

Is it really worth risking?

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
