What Does it Feel Like?

Recommended Posts

I haven't had any issues with any foods yet so I am wondering what everyone's experience is when they find a food that their sleeve doesn't tolerate and how does it react exactly? Just trying to be sort of prepared for when or if it does happen.

Also, does your new stomach go nuts when it's time to eat? It starts making all these crazy gurgling noises as soon as I put anything but Water in it - even just a sip of Protein Shake.< /p>

Thanks!!

so far I have not had any issues with food or Water. I only add a new food once every couple of days to give my body a chance to let me know if it does not want it. My tummy makes some noises but I mostly hear the noises early in the morning before I put food in. Rarely is it after I eat. But it does do it sometimes. It is interesting how everyone has a similar yet different experience with the sleeve.

I tried to eat a Trader Joe's salmon patty for lunch at about 8 weeks. I had no problem eating about half. Three hours later, I got foamies that lasted most of the afternoon and into the evening and that prevented me from eating or drinking anything else. Finally, I vomited about 9 that night and felt better. I was dehydrated the next day and caught up on fluids and drank shakes to give my stomach a rest. Haven't had a salmon patty since, I'm too scared to try again. Maybe in a few more months. I loved them pre-op.

My stomach regularly gurgles in the am when I wake up and sometimes, softly, after I eat.

At first, your stomach does "talk" to you quite a bit (or at least it did for me) and sometimes was embarassing. Doctor even commented on it at second checkup at one month out. But, now it is a lot less. When I drink too fast mostly or have food & Water in same time frame. Listen to your body, amazing how now I am aware of queues and hints that I am hungry, full, need more liquids. Before I was just always hungry...always. Gotta love the sleeve.

IEGAL, i so hope that the 'feeling hungry' all of the time issue for me is resolved for me as well! It is so damn annoying to always be so hungry! i hear a lot of people say that it could be and then some say they still are hungry. i pray mine goes away. i am not a grazer and do not have head hunger, if i just did not feel hungry, i would be fine.

best of luck to you!!

Coffee... and dang I LOVED it B4>> can't stand it now... very odd, tastes like dookie and I don't ever finish it> I'm 1 month post op on wed, and I'm still mostly on liquids, cant seem to get anything substantial in< and I panic when I think about eating< so I decided to stay on mostly thin Soups, or Protein Shakes, and see if that helps, Had the foamies once, don't want them again< My tummy talks all the time, I'm a hairdresser, and clients are like"you ok"?? LOL hopefully it settles soon, I also tried thin mashed potato's got about 2 tbl spoons in< that's when I had the foamies, and was miserable, losing like a maniac, but probably 'cuz I'm stinking starving, Haha> Such a learning process, huh??

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
