Met my hubby for lunch at a place in town that has awesome Soups. I ordered a crab bisque that is already pureed and asked them to strain it for me. It was heavenly and nice and thin, but I think without measuring I just took "one bite too many". anyway, still never threw up but BOY have I felt like crap since lunch. Oh well...guess we live and learn. So much for my high hopes of having a nice lunch date with my husband!! ;)

How do you know when to stop? Or when that last bite should be the last so that you don't get this way? Oh I am so worried about this.

What works for me is if I cannot measure my food (restaurants, friend's house) I deliberately undereat. I might have 4 spoonfuls of Soup slowly and stop, talk for 5 minutes or so, have another two spoonfuls, and then stop. I try to estimate what 1/3 cup of food would be (the amount I eat now) if I subtracted it from the pile on the plate and I try to eat one less spoon/forkful than that. So far I have not had any problems eating in public.

Make sure you eat slow and chew your bites really, really well.....I usually wait 5 mins or so between bites. I had Breakfast out with a friend and it was all good. We just took our time and I had plenty to eat. You will know when you feel full. I was told the same thing and worried about it, but you just have to listen to your body. I know most of the time we want to keep eating because it tastes so good, but just think you'll have plenty left over to have it again if you so desire. That's how I look at it. Good luck!

Yikes!!! My frist outing was for Thai food and I had a couple of bites and then a bit of the creamy sauce - and I felt crappy afterwards. I don't think I ate too much, but the richness of the sauce is I think what got to me.

Maybe it was the heaviness of the crab bisque (too much butter) that also made you feel a bit funky?

That'll teach ya :-)

I think the bisque was too rich...I had one from red lobster last week and it all came right back up...I don't think I'll try the bisque ever again

I had loaded potato Soup for lunch today and actually had no problem with it. It was soooooo good and normal. I'm just two weeks out tomorrow. I just felt very full very fast and tried to space spoonfuls far apart. Worked fine. So ready for real food! I truly hate milk and shakes.......

My first "real" food was crab = yummy! I've overdid it with chicken several times because of not chewing good enough. Omelettes are my best friend when eating out.

I dont have a problem telling when I feel full, almost like a knot... I make sure not to over do it, but like others have said certain foods will make me feel funny and I know I didnt over eat, that is probley not agreeing with me for one reason or another...

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
