I am DYING to have food but then I think food got me into this mess to begin with......

Anyone else want 'real food' and then feel guilty over it after? When will I get to the point where I can eat and not beat myself up over it? I would LOVE a steak and cheese grinder, ummm....hold the grinder LOL I would love nothing more then to get one and scrape the insides onto a plate and eat some steak and cheese. My post-op doesn't move me to a regular diet til week 6, I'm almost there.

Please tell me I am not alone in my inner struggle......

Actually one of the best things after surgery was the feeling of eating and not feeling guilty after that. I no longer beat myself after eating. I have had chocolates, ice cream, etc and feel good after because the amount is so little that it is not enough to cause harm or make me feel guilty. You will soon be able to have whatever you love without making you feel bad, believe me. laugh.gif

I felt horribly guilty for wanting to just taste real food! When I finally got to a "regular" diet, about 6 weeks post-op, I went to have Tex-Mex with my son. There was NOTHING that I could eat! I ordered the tortilla Soup, but it was so greasy, I only got a single bite. Tried a bite of his cheese enchilada, my all-time favorite, this is your last meal food, and had to spit it out. I cried for an hour, I was so frustrated, thinking I'd never be able to eat "real food" again! Fortunately that passed. While I still struggle with many things.....beef in particular, I am able to work around it. Also, getting back into my size 12's after those 18 W's, does help with those cravings! Hang in there, you will taste real food again.......hopefully, just not as much as you once did!

I understand. I am about 4 weeks post op, and I feel guilty just to take an extra bite or two!! What suks is I KNOW its not amounting to much calories! I think we have self installed very nasty guilt-o-meters for so many years that its gonna take awhile to get over it. Im trying. I just keep telling myself Im doing good Ive done the right thing and I CAN be successful!

Yeah -watch out because when you do get to the 'unrestricted' phase, it's great, but you still think you can eat much more than you can. So, the steak & cheese grinder (I'm from Philly, so I assume you mean a cheesesteak?), you'll only be able to eat, like, a bite - maybe two - before you are stuffed like it's Thanksgiving dinner. It's crazy! It doesn't last forever, but it's like that for the first few months... really - don't bother ordering one, just have a bite of a friends. And just make sure the rest of the day you're following dr's orders! Good luck!! :)

I'm definitely enjoying this feeling after the surgery! I do feel a bit guilty sometimes if I just eat crap all day, but that doesn't happen very often, and when it comes to my daily treat of a few pieces of chocolate or half a dessert at a restaurant, I don't feel guilty, because I know it won't make me put on weight. Of course, I'd love to eat 100% healthy every single day, but for now, I'm just happy being "normal."

I don't feel guilty at all! In fact, I went to Cheesecake Factory yesterday. I had about, 3 oz of chicken fetucinni and 2 spoonfuls of red velvet cheesecake, and I was completely satisfied! The rest of the day I had my Protein Shakes, Protein Bars, Water, and worked out. I allowed myself that little treat, nd that little bit of food filled me up and made my tastebuds happy at the same time. I tracked everything I ate in My Fitness Pal, and still ended up under my calorie goal.

Thanks for all of your honesty!! Y'all have made me feel so normal!! I thought I was the only one struggling like this. I see now that we all are going through the same feelings and struggles! I am 1 month out and would kill for Whataburger or TexMex!! I know I won't be able to scarf it all down like the past but just to taste it again would be amazing!!

I have a question.... I used to go out with friends and drink ritas while eating chips and queso. I guess that is something we can't do now? Eating and drinking really anything at the same time right? That is something I will miss so much! I wish it was something we could do but in moderation. Is it possible?

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
