Confused about post-op week 1

Recommended Posts

I had my sleeve done on 3/21 and was told to be on liquids until I see my doctor for my post-op visit on 3/30. I am super confused because the packet given to me by my NUT says "Water, Jello, broth" with no Protein shakes (Not sure I can get one down right now anyway), but the handbook given to me by my coordinator says that I am supposed to have "4 cups Protein Drink, 2 cups 1% milk and 2 cups of puree & strained low fat soup"

I didn't receive anything from my surgeon about what to have after surgery, he just told me to stay on liquids.< /p>

I am so confused! What did everyone do for their first week?

I was on clear liquids for the first 10 days post op. That is Dr. Aceves post op diet. I got unflavored Protein Powder and put it in anything I liked that was SF. Hawaiian punch, Crystal Light, etc plus broth sf Jello and sf popsicles.

I just tried to make some miso a little while ago and it tasted AWFUL!!! I used to love the stuff and I had pre-approval for it as a clear liquid. Maybe some of you will like it, but grrr....I guess I don't anymore. :( At least not for now.

I was told to aim for 64oz of zero calorie (no carbonation) fluids and three Protein shakes a day.

It took a week but now I'm able to take that in with no issues.

I am on full liquids for the first 3 weeks. Not necessarily clear ones. I do drink Protein Shakes, eat cream Soups (strained) and Jello. But every dr. has their own post-op rules, so call them and ask what they want you to do.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
