LapBand Article

My brother emailed me this article. Just thought it was interesting for those who may be contemplating getting the band instead of bypass or sleeve.

Bet this won't come as a shock to most of us here; especially our Band to Sleeve sisters! (and Brothers). Too many variables are involved when implanting a forgein object in the human body.

Thanks for sharing!

ABC news did a report a few weeks ago and they said 99% of ppl with bands have complications and 40% must have them removed. I was one of the 40% and I can tell you it was HELL!!!

Bands really are terrible! What was I thinking??? Oh well, now I have my sleeve and life is good!

Interesting article, but I think it barely scratches the surface on the minor complications.

Soooo glad for my band to be gone!!! You know I rolled onto my side in bed this morning and it didn't hurt. For the first time in almost 4 years. Sweet!

wow, for those of us that choose the band and have switched or are switching to the sleeve, this should come as no surprise... It's amazing to me how we are brain-washed into thinking that this is the best WLS choice... I just hate that I spent two and a half miserable years TRYING to lose weight with this piece of crap.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
