5 weeks out -22 lbs. But ugh...

Recommended Posts

Hi all. I'm 22 lbs down which is a great thing. But i'm so tired of not feeling good. I don't feel good all the time. I'm tired, sluggish, and lazy. I get stomach aches. I get a tight feeling in my chest all the time. I have heartburn all the time. I know I should be grateful but I just miss the old way of eating you know when you actually enjoyed it. Sorry just venting. Everyone else seems to love there sleeve at 5 weeks. I just kinda like it a little at this point.

I'm sorry, sister. Are you getting in all your fluids and Protein? If not, that's probably the reason. We need the protein for healing and Fluid for hydration. It is so hard to get in all that we need. I would call you doc and see what they suggest you do. Sending good thoughts your way.

Are you taking a PPI? It would slow down or stop that heartburn, and perhaps the tightness in the chest too... if you are, perhaps you need to change up.... Do get your Water in, it makes a different in how fast you lose weight too!

You are not alone I can assure you of that one. I am going into week 9 and although I don't feel like crap all the time, meal time is now my least favorite times of day as I do not feel good after eating ANYTHING. I have been told this too shall pass by many sleevers. That's the hope I hold on to at this point. Good luck to you.

I am only 2 weeks out and as my head hunger rages on I do genuinely already miss food as I remember it, though the consequences of that type of food I do not miss. I was very upset a few days ago as I couldn't even drink normally and I was frightened that I made a mistake, but that has drastically changed over the past few days and I am able to drink normally again. I have faith that I will be able to eat at a new normal again as well. It just might take time. Hang in there!

I have a tight feeling in my chest all the time. Truthfully, that is what bothers me the most in all of this. Whenever I take a drink, that tight feeling in my chest comes. I see the doc tomorrow. Never even heard of this issue on the boards, so kinda wondering why that is. Does this eventually go away, or do some of us get this?

I was just reading on signs that your new tummy is full and that was one. Maybe your sleeve is really swollen and cannot hold but a tiny bit. But I'm sure doc will be able to answer this question for you.

Hello everyone,

I am 7 weeks out and I know exactly how you feel.

I did a few things to help me out. smile.gif

Acid Reflux- I was initially on prevacid 24 hr right after surgery, but around week 4-5 it just wasnt cutting it anymore.

I was prescribed Omneprazole generic, 20 mg, twice a day. I pop open the capsule and put it on some applesauce 30-45mins before Breakfast and dinner. It works great as long as I keep it on a regular schedule.

Low Energy- I have been on Flinstones chewable Vitamins since post-op. I was still tired of course. I went to my primary care doctor and requested a B-12 Vitamin shot. It was the best thing I ever did! after a few hours I had an instant energy kick and I have been feeling like my old self again. Also, it will help with the hair loss down the road, and it definitely helped with my dry skin issue... i had terrible dry skin!

Tightness in chest- I asked my PCP why I have tightness in chest. Main reason is when the surgeon performs the sleeve, the stomach is no longer in its original "J" shape. The surgeon straightens out the pouch and this creates a lot of pressure in the esophagus. essentially, drink slower/smaller sips, eat smaller bites (i ALWAYS use baby spoons/forks, no matter what the food!) DO NOT eat and drink at the same time, this is a recipe for vomiting.

30/30 rule, no drinking 30 minutes before and 30 minutes after. And, I always eat things that are saucy or juicy.

Lesson learned: (I once ate 4 mcdonalds french fries and they all got stuck right in my chest. I took one sip of my crystal light and I instantly regurgitated the mushy fries.)

If you are around your period- I saw a MAJOR difference when I had my period, I couldn't even eat applesauce! EVERYTHING was getting stuck in my throat! I go to a therapist who sees exclusively patients who have weight loss surgery done, she confirmed that women on their period have a tough time since there is a lot of swelling. So i'm guaranteed a week of barely eating every month...

The fluids are definitely going to be a problem... I try to trick myself any way I can... crystal light, tea, milk and tea, coffee, apple juice... any flavored low-cal- non carbonated- liquid I can get my hands on, fruit smoothies. and if you still take normal size gulps, try holding half of the amount in your mouth while swallowing the other half. I normally do this because it helps bring the liquid to body temperature before I drink it anyway (sorry if this sounds a bit yucky!)

Well hope this helps!

And try to find yourself a medical professional who can help you... My surgeon was great, but his office staff are terrible at addressing post-op concerns. So I have been seeing my PCP and consulting my therapist who treats weight loss surgery patients. between both I have a great team on my side.

Suzie

Hi Vickie

I am sorry to hear you are having a hard time. I tell you the B12 liquid sublingual or injectable will make you feel more energetic. I increased my carbs a bit and it slowed the weight loss but helped with the energy, especially in the middle of the afternoon when I was at my worst. I also miss the large meals...and feel frustrated at times as the weight loss is been sooooo minimal these past 2 weeks... But I am very happy as I know I would not be able to maintain the lost weight if not due to the sleeve.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
