3rd day post-op...no walk in the park

Recommended Posts

Oh my word!! The pain is manageable, but the nausea and gas is about to kill me!! Been taking nausea medicine and previcid but oh my Lord I just want to throw up and get it over with. Been doing a lot of walking as was instructed, but nothing seems to help.I just want to sleep BUT CAN'T!! HELP!!!

How long does this typically last?

It varies for everyone, but day 4 or 5 seems to be the point where things start to calm down. For me it was day 6 or 7. The nausea is pretty frustrating, just find an incline position that you like, and try to be still.

Hopefully you're not worrying too much about getting in the Protein drinks and that stuff *right now*.. i talked to my nutritionist on day 3 and asked her, because i was so nauseated i couldn't even THINK about putting anything down the hatch other than minuscule sips of Water. She said to concentrate on fluids until things calm down then you can work on the other stuff.

My liquid Lortab didn't do anything for my pain, but it did help me get comfortable enough to sleep when i just couldn't. Maybe try your pain meds to help get you off to sleep?

Hang in there, darling! <3 <3

Oh thanks Laura...I took your advice about the liquid Lortab and it worked. I just awoke and have an incredible gas bubble in my tummy from hell. I've been making laps around my house trying to relieve it. Then all the sudden the vomit alarm went off! Fortunately, after one dry heave it passed (sorry for the TMI).

I haven't been worried about the Protein as I do good to get sips of Water down. I pray today is a better day. :(

walking wasn't the miracle savior for me either although I did recognize it's over all importance in getting blood circulating and healing the body. However for relief of gas, it did not seem to help me at all. Time was all I needed and I would say it was completely gone on day 7 for me.

I was walking around 3 hours after surgery and it didn't do a thing for the gas. I was trying to adhere to the walk, walk, walk mantra I keep hearing. Like someone else said, in my case, it just took time. I enjoyed getting out and walking though and didn't want a clot or anything so I did it, but as for helping gas, no.

There are many, many types of nausea medicines, ask you Dr. to change yours and see if that helps.

Hope you feel better soon!smile.gif

The 16th for me too Buckwheat. I think yesterday and last night were the worse for me. Today I seem to be able to burp a little...THANK YOU JESUS!! It does make you ask yourself....WHY DID I DO THIS?? But we will make it through. Walking has helped...slowly. My liquid Lortab is sooo disgusting so I stopped it yesterday. Bad decision! I was not in surgery pain but the gas was killing me. Then I remembered what one of the nurses told me in the hospital. She said that others had said the liquid Lortab didn't do much for pain but helped a lot with the gas and such. So I took it and I was finally able to get settled in and went to sleep.

I hope you're feeling better soon too. I guess it's all "No Pain, No Gain." :(

I was sleeved on the 16th too.

I think I'm doing pretty good. Trying to get in fluids and some Protein. I've been sticking to the loritab about half dose and really only lapse at night. Its definitely helping. Gas is ok... burbing is good. I'm worried about fluids though I'm able to sip pretty well. No hunger. Can't wait to be able to sleep on my side.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
